    Thanks all,

The main reason for choosing glass is the fact that its thermal structural stability (expansion/contraction) is 4 times higher than that of aluminum. With multi diode setups this can/will quickly become an issue. This also gives the perfect platform for realizing a tension free build; components under tension also react to temperature changes (minimum of screws/tension involved here with optical components). The module will be hermetically sealed and temperature regulation will be 2 stage, regulation of the diode temperatures and regulation of the module internal ambient temperature via TEC heat/cool exchange to the outside. I’m mainly looking for beam convergence stability in any environment, I’m not a fan of continuously adjusting beam convergence and tests have been real promising so far.

    cheers

i think when this is finished, it will be the sexiest projector for 2012 in my list

(the sexiest thing for 2011 was that unimaginable piece of work by planters)

    It's growin dude..

Here's the adjustable version (diode centering) of the micro mount in the same small form factor of 15mm x 15mm x 22mm. These allow ±0.5mm adjustment with 2mm Allen set screws in XY coordinates. The 0.5mm gap between housing and diode carrier is filled with thermal paste to assure adequate thermal conductivity to the housing. Tightening down the PCB will secure the position of the diode carrier. Just finished 8 of these for 2 quads with the 71 mitsus. Almost time for the final assembly.

Have you thought about testing a 445 diode in these centering mounts? These might clean up some of the aberrations in the far field.

I haven't tried them with a 445nm diode yet, but this will be the only kind of mount I will be using in future projects. It's simply better when diode centering is adjustable due to bore tolerances and thread slack of the lens retainers.

I second Jon's question. Will you be willing to make/sell these mounts? I would love to test these with the 445 diodes and some of the lenses such as the O-like Axiz and G-2. Oh, and by the way, nice workmanship!

I'm currently looking for a company to produce them for a reasonable price. Doing them myself with my manual mill and tapping 2mm threads is a real PIA.

A couple of red quads emerging..

have you tried spiral flute taps frank?
i find them much easier to work with (still fragile of course, but they save you the back and forth movement of the hand taps)

No, I haven’t tried those yet, they look even more fragile than the regular taps and I've already broken 2 of them. I just love it when you're down to one hole left and the tap breaks off nice and flush in the hole where the only thing left to do is chuck it in the trash.

Pricy little suckers, but I’ll give them a try.
