DMX controller idea

I had a thought last night about how to add some automation functions to my satellite projectors that are controlled by a single FB3 DAC.

Thinking of building this all into a single box with the FB3 controllers and E-stop switch.

• Arduino based DMX controller (over USB)
• Several DMX controllable DPDT relays providing:
• Satellite 1&2: Mute output (modulation)
• Satellite 2: Invert X axis
• Satellite 2: Swap Green and Blue modulation

This will allow the Satellites or just one of them to be manipulated from the timeline, or from user cues.

Do you think there is any merit for this device?

I've been thinking about them. And with the ability to daisy chain interlocks it makes things easy. I guess it spoils the fun when you know how to do it yourself but for programming simpletons live myself it's an attractive option.

Hehe, been there, done that.

Just finishing up revision 2, with a few additions.. One of them being running dmx down a couple of spare pins of the ilda - 1 less cable should make set up/pack down easier

Yeah, I've been thinking about the same thing; I was also thinking about adding sats to the sats i.e. some very small plug in 445 modules with no galvos, just motorised diffraction gratings.

My idea was to make this USB, no need for a USB to DMX device. It would speak DMX protocol and appear as a USB serial device to Windows.

I was under the impression that QS2 will only talk to the Enttec DMX USB Pro, which is more than just a FTDI chip..

Maybe. I'll give it a try.

When I spotted the COM port selection, I assumed it would be a simple FTDI style adapter, and frankly I don't see why it would need to be anything more complicated, DMX is not rocket science!

From what I remember of the implementation, provided you can set the VID/PID the same, you should be OK. I believe the only difference between the Open and the Pro are buffers, isolation and an in port. I don't believe any of these would prevent you from being able to masquerade as an Entec USB DMX Pro.
