i also bought the ST 132 and it arrived today, first impression - god that thing is heavy! compared to my current light stand this one looks like a monster truck against fiat punto

did i already mention that it's heavy?

my question for those who already own it - do you transport it in the box it came with (doesn't seem too durable) or you just transfer it without any box, or you have some custom made?

    Without the box.
Cardboard boxes don't stand up to life on the road, and quickly become more hassle than they're worth (liquid soaked, flapping openings, used as a bin, etc)
You could get a case made up, but why would you want to add 'more' weight??!

Mine (4) just go out laid flat in the back of the car/van and seem to stand up (groan!) ok.

The bits that are likely to get scratched are the lower painted pieces. you can get stand 'skirts' to cover up the tripod section, and are quite handy for hiding all your cable coils underneath on the posher jobs.
However, as we do our thing in the dark usually, it generally isn't an issue if they pick up a few surface imperfections here and there. They are functional lifting gear after all...

Check with Global Truss - I use one of their reinforced nylon carry bags for my 132. As I recall, it was not expensive, makes it easy to carry and keeps the tripod from damaging other gear.

I had a look, its listed at $60. Probably not expensive if you're a pro user but a little bit harder to justify for home use.

I'm sure some of the pro users will love it though.

I think if it was a £300+ stand it may be worth keeping it in a bag, but for £45 I'll leave it thanks...
That said, I wonder how much the American DJ version of the bag is?

I've asked ADJ. Will let you know.

I looked on Thomann but the problem seem to be that the stand doesn't go below 1.8m when folded which is massive in bag terms.

Sometimes I use regular Ultimate tripods, sometimes I use the Global ST132 stands. I got the carrying bags partly to protect the stands, but mostly to protect things from the handle & winch.

I had a local welder make aluminum brackets for my lasers and had them powder coated
