There IS some truth to that!! I have driven 1.5 hours round trip (45 minutes each way) south for a breakfast sausage sandwich from a little but well known "hole in the wall" place on several occasions. North, 1.5 hours roundtrip to Philadelphia for a cheesesteak on numerous occasions. And... 4 hours round trip to the beach for an evening to get pizza from a well know place here called Grottos. And those trips are sometimes just on a whim... sitting around and get to thinking about being hungry for a particular thing and saying, "Let's go!"

Why do you think we're so damn dependent on the mid-east for gasoline!

Yeah I wasn't saying Sunderland was near Leeds, rather questioning if that would be too far for them to go as an alternative venue for a gig if there was nothing of interest in Leeds. Checking on Google maps its another 92 miles and 1 1/2 hours beyond Leeds.

Anyway, lets not forget that *some* of the UKLem crew drive for 6+ hours, usually with a car load of (heavy) gear to get there, it's a passion man!

One would imagine if you've specially come over from the States (or anywhere else in the world for that matter) for a LEM, you'll travel anywhere within the UK to go to it.. I mean once in a lifetime.

I'm interested too. It seems that the assumption is that it will be a UK based LEM with an emphasis on US participation/visitors. The killer if there is going to be a serious contingent from the States is the cost of the flights. With enough interest and lead time a travel broker might be able to arrange a package deal (sort of a group buy) especially if there is some date flexibility. The outdoor component would be a major draw as this is certainly lacking at SELEM. Live bands? Well who could refuse?

Flights are probably always going to be the biggest expense. It's a bit hard at this point to even hazard a guess that far out but, I'm talking with a travel company that is a client of mine and working on finding out about some of the tips and tricks to securing the best rates. Most online travel booking sites don't provide information that far out so, a tarvel agent will be a big help with that.

"Tarvel" agent? I hate when I make typos. Anyway, this is still very much in the works. Thanks for the bump Jonathan! I haven't had a huge amount express interest YET but, I still plan to have a lot of concrete information by SELEM.

One thing that has been recently suggested is rather than us go there, that we all go to the potentially being organized CaribLEM. The major drawback there is dragging along the kind of equipment we usually bring. Who in their right mind really wants to "ship" a 'scope? I've flown with just one laser and it was a hassle.

Nah, if that comes together, I'm sure I could prolly talk our el Sal client into letting us 'borrow' the LS40, there.. it's got the 'SkyScan' module, and all kinds of cool-fun options.. We'll only need a van, a few machetes, a couple a 9mm's and an AK-47 or M-16, to make the drive > Hondu... piece o' cake...

Really will love to be a part of either LEM.. would be the trip of a lifetime..
