Laser Warning I got a new old toy in the house.. MEDIALAS AVATAR

I got this from a friend today

Have been standing for some years not been used.
It have a 250mb flash card inside.
I tested it with my RGB laser and it works perfect

I got it cheap and as payment for a job I`v done, but the owner told me it was unstable at times.
So I opened it up and did find some bad soldering inside, I have re soldered what I could see with my eyes.
And so far it works out fine, but it is old stuff.

Anyway allot of fun with all the buttons.
And it does play animations and beams.

But does anyone here know what other fun stuff it could do?
it says SMS-2-LASER , and it have a Serial COM\GSM port on the back.
Can I find an old phone and use it ? (how does that part works out)

Really not so sure what to do with it... I can use it, sell it or maybe some one want to trade?

if you have some history about this, plz share

hmm interesting, maybe I can use it for beams into mirror effects with one of my lasers.
But that is a big box for so small amount of fun

I have a Medialas light painter system with SMS 2 Laser working on it. If this is similar you'll be needing to get on ebay for some ancient mobile technology. I already had a Nokia 6300, but had to get it a new PSU, PAYG Sim card and then track down the correct version of the Nokia Data Suite and cable (once I found it, cost me 99p!) The latter is quite rare as it was an expensive option that most people didn't bother with, and that anyone who did have it would've thrown out with the phone. The later USB versions were free!

You'll be needing that manual someone offered! I have the Light Painter manual, but that won't help you much!

Is that cable the one with the USB to serial adaptor builtinto the USB plug? If so I may have an old one at home, as I DID buy the expensive cable option

You are using Bonetti's defense against me, ah?

I thought it fitting, considering the rocky terrain.

    Dont worry, its by design.

They used to advertise it with crashfree OS, but that claim was removed later on.

The thing is very picky about the type of CF card, I guess they somehow did not implement the standard very well.

So ML ended up selling ML certified cards.

I suspect if it's like Light Painter, it needs the 9 pin serial version:-
