Default How much do you guys charge?

Just curious, I've made a few bucks here and there doing laser shows for private parties and such. But now that my laser is going to be legal, I will be doing profesional events.

The question is....how much do I charge? Is there a standard rate I have to be charging?

Personally, I would rather charge less than others in industry (competion in a free market right?) but at the same time I heard people can get pretty pissed off if you lower the prices so much that you start taking away customers from other laserists. But then again, it is a free market right??

    As a reference, I have a 300mW white/full color projector with wideangle 30K scanners.

How much should I be charging per gig???

    thanks,

In the past, we rang around, and found out what the other companies were charging. Then priced ourselves accordingly.

It really depends on the type of show tho. We have charged a couple of thousand dollars for a 150mw green projecting corporate logos over a number of days, whereas we could never charge that sort of money for the same equipment at a dance party as in my experence promoters want to spend as little as possable.

Just make sure you factor in labour, and don't discount your labour. If you come up against a cheap prick who wants a discount, and you're happy to give him one, leave him with the impression that you've discounted the GEAR, but not the labour.

It makes your clients respect you a lot more when they realise they are paying for you to be there...

If people only knew all the things that are done to get a show for them to see .......... it's hard for me to charge friends for a hobby I enjoy. I would expect good $'rs for a customer show or logo display. It also would depend on the time to actually do the show or display. I figure charges would be somewhat as to the nature and duration? Not many in the hobby so.....I would be interested as what would be a starting range.

my first show I did on a private party (that friends of mine did arrange) !
I told them that I do it for free
As it was actually more fun for me to do the show on a new bigger room than just my small apartment

But the "party" and the show+music was so perfect, and ppl just ceep on coming.. ( it was like 300ppl there )
And they did get more money than expected, so I was payed 200$ almost And that is not so bad i think...
I`m glad I did get my laser there at the first place anyway ..

But next time, when THEY want to rent me to do show.
I will tell them a minimum price for one night !

A common price here in Norway is like 1000$ for a 1W RGB laser at one night !!!

But you can also rent a Stand alone 20-100mW green dpss for 50-90$

So If i`m lucky I hope to get some money on my 700mW RGB + 1W green dpss

EDIT: It`s late and my english writing skills are sleeping.. so plz ignore them ops:

I rent my green lasers for $1 per mW

so 30mW auto lasers $30 bucks
    150mW $150

    red for .50 per mW

its a rate for rental that works well with the rave market in vancouver for me

you should factor in a labor cost.
