Im confused. Why then do you say yes and no? If I can remap controls to keys, doesn't it mean I can also use a key (button) on my midi controller which isn't one of the keyboard keys? I think you mean I can do this, I just can't have that button clickable in LSX itself. Is that what you mean?
Yes you can remap controls to keys and that control would then have the exact same behaviour as a key in LSX, with its control value being the velocity.

A key can be used in the following ways:

    * change the active segment of the timeline
    * change the value of the key and velocity variables in expressions

Those two actions can be done with the four inputs (midi input device, on-screen keyboard, alphanumeric keyboard and masterbeam cues) I listed above. Hope that clears it up but when you start using it it's going to point itself out right away.

It goes to the end of the effect then stops playback entirely, instead of pausing at the end. You need to click the play button for it to work again.

Yeah I had to play the show for it to disappear. Guess it doesn't update the window when nothing is being drawn.

Thats the behavior I wanted: stop playing after playing once. I guess you thought I wanted it to stop at the last frame huh?

Okay, all seems good now. Just to be sure, Basic version will have these midi functionalities, right?

Yes, I thought that. Having to click play after each effect seems annoying...

And yup basic should have MIDI fully enabled. If not it should because that's what is advertised.

Cool. Is there a way to smoothly fade from one section of the timeline to the other instead of just abrupt replacement?

Not without an insane amount of expressions
How would you define "smooth"? One effect fades in while the other fades out? One effect growing in the other? Spiralling away? One effect being inside a shrinking circle and the other outside, being occluded by surfaces (see swami shows)? Some 3D warp? Morphing into each other?

Also! I updated the first post of this thread with a bunch of links to comments that contain useful topics. Rejoice! With 500 posts this is probably one of the longest threads on PL so it was getting hard to find the useful stuff and hidden gems back.

How would one go about making something like this. The main idea is take any pattern rotate slightly, make smaller, repeat. However currently when I am trying to do this in LSX I am having no luck. I apparently don't know how to clone and spiral at the same time?

Make SFX loop, add some loops in it, use size and rotation effects with expression 'loop'... maybe you'll have to add some f-ion per loop, because it's not linear in the your image

    What is f-ion per loop?

I tried the suggested size and rotation with loop and although that is close and can make cool effects on its own it does not match the supplied image. If you notice in the image each square is always inside of the larger square and touching the sides. No corners are sticking out.

Is there a way to make non-linear clones?

Guess f-ion means function as in, something not linear.

You're just gonna have to play around with values until you find a good one. I think it might actually be linear. Try adjusting the upper and lower limit sliders...
