you still have to glue a square thing in a round hole
it is a matter of choice really, or a trial and error thing.
even if you buy an adjustable mount and decide that you don't need it, it is never a waste of money (especially at these prices).
you will end up using it eventually, in some other project, or in some quick and dirty setup

Oh, my plan was, to epoxy one side of the dichro on the front and then have the other half "hang" over the hole. Is that logical thinking?
yeah, sure. why not?
just post a test-fit photo before you permanently glue everything in place.
