Thanks. I hadn't found the scaling factor, but had found how to hide. It's likely my lack of experience, but I have rarely seen more than three or four things in the right hand pane, and plenty of space for the menu there with the rendering in the left . . . . or so it would seem . . . . Oh, and 1 is small, and 2 a bit large . . . and 1.5 isn't an option, but this *IS* much better!

When I get back stateside, we really need to talk . . . Oh, and sent you a few other questions in a PM . . .

one thing though is nowadays there are some tendencies to prefer sleek interfaces, and while all your keys are useful and needed, spreading the gap would help gain new users and gain in ergonomy

what about selecting objects with the mouse and key-command some parameters? I like this kind of hybrid behavior... it makes things really quick to work with two hands in an alternate fashion and hover the next target while you're still typing a command for the previous one
    Myself I simply use "u" . . . paste is "p" . . . no pesky control key to slow me down!

All software has a learning curve usually proportional to its capabilities and unique features. Pointing with a mouse is in no way easier than tapping a key.

James, if you ported LaserBoy's core functionality to a real UI layer then you'd have a hundred times as many users as you currently have. User interfaces are not optional, and you are not edgy and cool for using one that is an impenetrable barrier to 90% of users; you're just a schmuck with a project nobody will use.

    Hello Heroic!

I have to credit you for convincing me to let it go into open source and for telling me about libSDL to make it work across platforms!

In one major revision to the code, quite some time ago, I did quite a bit or work to separate the core of the code from the user interface. This was to make it a lot easier for (possibly myself and) others to write some other kind of interface.

At least one person, drlava, did exactly that. IldSOS is The LaserBoy Core.

I can tell you, from the number of people who contact me directly, that a lot more than "nobody" are using it to some great effect.

Did you know that LasserBoy was added (not by me) to the Debian Repository?

    You can apt-get LaserBoy now!

That means that it will probably make its way into a future full distribution of Debian Linux!

    How cool is that?

    Update:

    http://laserboy.org/code/LaserBoy_2013_05_01.zip

This version has been tested and runs in the console of the Raspberry Pi,

    as well as X.

It runs in all bits-per-pixel settings.

Application code should not care about bits-per-pixel settings.

LaserBoy is designed to handle full 8 bit per color RGB vector art in and out of its file types. The way that looks on the screen can effect some things. The way LaserBoy works requires keeping a few copies of the display area in user space RAM. Manipulating those memory bitmaps obviously requires knowing how many bits-per-pixel they are. Opening bitmap files into the display and saving the display as a bitmap file also depend on knowing these things.

James, i just read on the RPI website a new OS will arrive that takes the X server from CPU to GPU.

this might free up some cpu for you, and fix some bugs with mouse movement perhaps

and especially make everything fine under graphical environment... have you tried displaying a simple HTML page with a Pi? max CPU for at least 5 minutes... don't try google as it adds on javascript and other things...
