no.. the biggest problem i have is navigating the 80's style colored ascii mod tracker interface.

no offense intended, but it's like a koala crapped a rainbow on my monitor.

i know there's some great functionality under the hood, and i want to use it to convert some waves to ilda, but i find the interface to be unintuitive and difficult.

No. I don't take offence to any of that.

The reason the text is all different colors is so that you can easily read across a whole line of text without visually losing your place.

That bit-mapped font is actually part of the code and part of what gets rendered in the screen memory map. Again, this is part of the Generic C++ aspect of the code that makes it compile on any system. I don't need to rely on finding a font on the system or wondering how it will render and fit.

It is an 8x8 pixel mapped font defined as a an array of byte patterns.

If you show me something that you want to do that LaserBoy doesn't currently do, I might be very inspired to add that functionality to the code!

Quite a few functions have found their way into LaserBoy that way!

I guess it all depends what you are used to, and what you find efficient . . . . I have a 30 year background in computers (it's my profession) and have been playing with LaserBoy for the last few days, and while visually, the interface is a bit dated *LOOKING*, I ultimately think that once I know the app, I'd be a heck of a lot faster and more efficient *NOT* having to d!ck with a mouse. I have all the bells and whistles on my systems, and the way I work the fastest is 4 text windows . . . . for editing, I *HATE* rat-based editors - I prefer plain 'ol vi, and can outrun anyone with it too (and quite a few have tried . . . ). *NOT* having to take your hands away from the home position on the keyboard can be quite an advantage from a speed and efficiency of use standpoint, but it doesn't make a piece of software dimwit friendly . . . . Myself, I *LOATHE* the UI on the Mac . . . I want to do things *MY* way, and not the way some westcoast fruitbat tells me I should work, and frankly, attempts to use an Apple (anything) just make me want to smash it, it's so dumbed down I can't stand it . . . So, I find LaserBoy a bit refreshing - lean, efficient, task-centric software without all the bloat to placate those who don't want to take the time to learn anything . . . .

And I reserve the right to amend this opinion after I use it a bit, but so far, much like James, the UI doesn't bug me, but I suspect the inability to navigate the filesystem will . . .

I do wish, thought, I could make the menu fonts a bit bigger, *AND* get them to not overlay the display space . . . On a 2k x 1k monitor, it's quite an eye test . . .

i can recite emacs key bindings like a litany.

same for ltspice or this kind of soft... function keys and key directives, they are way fastest than any mouse click when you know them

would you ever click edit --> undo? I do ctrl+z... same for copypasta, you ctrl+key your "organic" commands

one thing though is nowadays there are some tendencies to prefer sleek interfaces, and while all your keys are useful and needed, spreading the gap would help gain new users and gain in ergonomy

what about selecting objects with the mouse and key-command some parameters? I like this kind of hybrid behavior... it makes things really quick to work with two hands in an alternate fashion and hover the next target while you're still typing a command for the previous one

You can increase the size of the font in the [Tab] menu with option l (lower case L) by whole integer factors.

At any time you can tap the [enter] key and the menus disappear and reappear.
