Is there any confirmation on the emitter size. I was under the assumption that it was 40um x 1um.

    Default Eureka!!

Messing around with some different lens combinations today and stumbled upon 1.28mRad with a really good looking skinny tight super bright beam for a P73 pushing well over 600mW and 5x2mm at the ap. The secret is: Dave's 2mm lens + that HUGE pcx lens from the infamous kiy groupbuy + Daves newest groupbuy pcv. Enjoy!

Mmmmm???? The EFL on the KIY GB PBX = 60....and the EFL on the KIY GB PCV is -9.7 ....so about 6X.
What is the EFL on the LSP GB PCV ????? Dave ???????? The set from LSP was 4X...but I cannot find
any posting on the lens EFL's. BEAM OUT

OK then.....Maybe I should read the whole thread....Naaaaaaaah !!! Thanks Mr.B.....So....Steve-O's combo is @ 10X.....but distance from the Collimation lens to the first optic provides a huge adjustment also...Interesting. BEAM OUT...Professor P sez thanx !!

Please let me know if you try this and what your results are CDB. I think the beam looked a lot better, but that's just me .. results might vary (?) (I dunno how) .. but it's SCIENCE .. and as we all know SCIENCE can sometimes deliver different results to different people. It shouldn't, (it should be a constant) but we all know of the gremlin-Murphy principle, right ? lol ........

OK Steve-O !!! I have some glass heading my way and will be able to duplicate your set up !!! Ya never know !! I have not experimented with anything higher than a 6X...Will advise. BEAM OUT

The relative FL of the two lenses when combined with different distances from the diode produces very different magnifications. I am using a -50mm cylinder from Edmunds paired with the +50mm from the GB at about 100 mm from the diode. This gives a 2mm x 5mm near field and 8mm x 8mm at 8M with the G71. Because the near field dimensions have to be included with the divergence calculations, could you give the raw far field numbers?

Sure, it's a 45mm rectangle at 100 ft. The large dimension is 45mm, the small dimension is slightly less. I don't have the exact dimensions with me right now. I can do a more precise measurement when I get home later.

    --added .. :

Had a lil fog here last night so took some outdoor beam shots. The top one is at 100 ft. I don't know why the camera put a white stripe in the middle of the beam .. cameras are funny like that, they dont seem to show what the eye sees .
