Hey Steve, Nice to see you finally getting to grips with the red, it does seam to me like your diode needs a slight rotation, not the lens.

Yeah it's been several times I thought I had it nailed Andy, but this time seems best. I really don't need perfection. How you doing with the reds? What's your best beam and lens setup ? Inquiring minds need to know :]

    Hi Steve,

I stopped working for a while due to health issues and some huge expected changes but still have some slow progress going on with a what will be a 15W 638nm red @ 5mm x 5mm beam and almost an ok divergence.

Eventually I will post some picks of this little beast.

Hey andy how the hell do you get that many
Diode in a 5x5 beam? Hints Please
When God said “Let there be light” he surely must have meant perfectly coherent light.

Sorry Badger, for now I prefer not to post the solution because it will upset too many friends who are selling modules, I will not be selling any modules either because for me I like the optical challenge posed by this little monkey of a diode. Hope you understand.

It's not very hard to do and more diodes could be added with a slight increase in aperture size, I will post some photos when it is complete with a power meter, measurements , near and far field shots.

The only clue I will give is that I am not doing it the same way everyone else is with the 2mmFL and correction, that way is limited and I had to "turn my brain upside down" to figure another way.

    Cheers

    Andy

Hopefully, the health issues are behind you or yours. If not, then best wishes. What is an almost OK divergence?

You can put as many diode beams as you like in a 5x5mm beam, but the divergence will increase proportionally. A super cooled P73 will put out over 1.5W 8-10 of these would do the trick(2x2 and then PBSed), but the divergence would be 2-3mrad.

For what it's worth there is nothing magical about the 2mm lens. The 4mm Optima gives the same performance in the near and far field as long as the magnification is adjusted.

Currently ~1.8 but will be ~1.0 without near field size increase. No focusing is involved to improve it

    Ohh man!
My brains going to be in overload now, trying to work this out
And i am shit with optics
Andy what did you just start
Sounds like the money pit just got bigger for me
    Btw get better soon man
