Been there, done that, got the t-shirt & selling it in a garage sale.
Spoken like a true Spectra-Physics man! But I have lots of S-P and only meters from Coherent. The S-P lasers I have are: 110 head, 111 system, 115 system, 130B, 119 system, 120 system, 124B system, 125A system, 132, 133 system, 135 system, 155, 155ASL, 107 head, 907 head, and a 138-01 system. All painted grey except the last 4. S-P meters I have are the 401, 401C, and 404. I can make room for *one* laser from coherent, can't I?!?![]()
Nice talking with you last night, Bob. If I get a chance I'll head over and take some pictures of the other items discussed and post them up here, as it seems there is some interest in seeing what it really looks like. I also appreciate the information on what it was used for, etc.
Response from Coherent:
Hi Andy,
Thanks for the pictures. The system you have is a very old ion laser that was discontinued more than 30 years ago. There is no tube or parts available for these systems.
The value is in the scrap metal you can pull out of the system.
System contains electronics components such and capacitors, transformers, etc. but no dangerous gases in the tube. You should scrap this system the same was you would scrap an old TV or anything else containing electrical components. We typically pay a scrap company to pick these systems up and scrap them properly. There are no valuable metals to recover.
Regards,
Mike Z
Mike's attitude is why there are so few old Coherent lasers to be found, and why it's so important to preserve this one for people to see 50 years from now.
Bob,
No SP-127 in the collection? I can help with that. I can probably also donate a non-working Coherent Taipan head. Next time you're in silicon valley, you should drop by the Junktronix secret underground lab to see if there is any other museum worthy junk here.

Good news. Got a few more pics on Saturday.
This one was funny
Here are the power and controller cords, plus water hoses.
Interior views.
Bad news is someone broke in Sunday evening, ruining the back door, stole some of the restaurant equipment, plus the ion laser. My guess is they saw that tag and thought they found the jackpot. Hope they had a truck and a few helping hands. Maybe it will show up on craigslist.
Sorry Bob. Wish I could have gotten it to you.
You gotta be freakin' kidding me!
HAHAHAHAHHAHHAHAHAA the jokes on them...fools....you are better off...I mean.....sorry for your loss ....![]()
