    Default Windows 8

Has anyone tried the Windows 8 Preview yet? I finally got it going today after a couple failed
attempts last night- I could get much of the way through the install, but then the screen would
go blank after a certain point.

That first cup of coffee in the morning gives clarity...

I have 2 monitors connected to my PC, but I rarely have them both on at the same time. My main
monitor is connected by DVI, and the 2nd by HDMI to the same video card. After Windows got far
enough into the installation, it decided to switch the 2nd monitor even though it was turned off.

    Oooops!

I think the jump from Vista to Win7 was mostly under the hood- more power, less bloat, and better
mileage. With Win8, the furniture has been totally re-arranged... I'm still trying to figure out
how to do some of the most rudimentary tasks. Oh well, that's progress, besides it has been quite
awhile since I've sat in front of a machine with a clean install with no baggage- it's amazing
how a system can get so junked up over time. Now comes the task of getting my USB audio card
    to work properly...

Windows 7 is a curse word to me; Windows 8 just has an overly vulgar sound to me. I just upgraded to XP 64 to see if it works as well as XP 32.

    Good luck with your endeavor.

I installed windows 8 on a virtual box today. First thing I had heard about win8 was how do I quit applications, I figured it out but meh. I could see it working but for now it will stay for QA testing software.

Personally I'm going to give it a miss. I like my data on my own PC not on a cloud somewhere where governments and agencies can snoop and where its far more vulnerable to hackers - lets face it as a hacker where are you going to attack an individual pc or a server with the data of tens of thousands of PC users? The former may be easier but the latter is far more rewarding in terms of the amount of usable info eg credit card numbers and passwords you can harvest.

I'm looking forward to trying it out along with Visual Studio 2012 once they are officially released.
