they were produced and ended way before I got there 1978. We were cleaning out the service department and my boss saw one plasma tube left and a head and supply in mint condition and said if I would get it running I could have it...so I did, and I did. yes they had an option for the cavity extender with etalon, they were very tricky to get running properly, I was trained by Sam P. and Alonso M. now both RIP, they were two of the original employees from the beginning.

Mine does about 50mW on a good day....

How long were the 185's compared to my 4240 (since you've seen it, pat)?
they are well over or just around 6 feet long from what I recall, external cavity mirrors. I got a severe sunburn under my arm and my armpit aligning one and peaking it. They were amazing when the cadmium started flowing. I think they were specd at around 100 mw. But mine was smokin i remember around `185mw or so.

    Hey Ed,
How much do you want for that I-90K?

I have plenty of argon... but they are so lonely without krypton....

    EDIT:

Oh yeah... how bad are those SP185's about going high-pressure as they sit? Do they just use a single anode/single cathode setup? Finding one and bringing it back to life would be absolutely awesome... But I think the hands of time have probably made most of them hopelessly high-pressure by now.... Or just outgassed all together. Does your 185 still have gas in it, Ed?

But yeah, the total output power of all the lasers in his house is greater than the total output power of all the lasers at a typical LEM here in the states! No doubt about it - he's got some impressive toys!

Visiting New Zealand, and stopping in to visit with Ray in particular, is definitely on my to-do list - just as soon as I win the lottery so I can afford to fly there!
