Old radium painted watch dials have ground up radium in some sort of lacquer. When you remove the crystal it just sits there glued to the dial. Tritium sources contain tritium gas - when you break them you breathe tritium. It will show up on a bio assay.

These small tubes are very safe. Do not break off end, jam up nose and sniff...

It's not the size that matters. It's how much tritium is in the source. We have sources with milicuries and sources with 10 curies. I must have missed where the op detailed the amount of tritium they contain. But that's OK because there are other things we don't know. For example: how thick is the glass supposed to be, and is it? Was the glass anealed? Have they been wipe tested to see if they're already contaminated? And my favorite: Why are they being dumped in the first place...

I'm willing to assume it's a flaw in my character that keeps me from agreeing they're "very safe", or maybe I've been confused by actually working with tritium, and not being 12 years old.
Still - as long as you can amuse yourselves...

    Sir Phil -

I think you might just have been a 'victim of coicumstance' in-that, I believe Brian (laserist) was-more responding to 'j4cbo' in Post# 10 / to the thread, in-general, and it was just 'coincidence' that his post followed yours.. No, he didn't say "..@ j4cbo:.. blah, blah..', but.. us 'old-skoolers' tend not to be particularly 'forum-posting savvy' - ie: it took our beloved P'fessor Mixedgas nearly 4 years to actually *Quote* someone-correctly (..just-teasin, Steve.. ,and you'll also notice most of the 'old-skoolers' nearly never feel the need to use 'h@xx0r-$p3@k', in-replies, either..

..point-is, I think you may have miss-judged his 'actual target', which, IMHO he is spot-on about.. I mean, my gripe - besides Brians' very-legitimate points - as 'cool' as these little puppies are - is we have - yet again - someone that, for the most (apparent)-part 'mistakes PL for eBay'.. Yeah, I (stupidly) made that 'mistake' on my very-early posts, too - like #2, or whatever it was - but... that still does not make it any more 'palletable', these-days, where we see more and more and more people seeming to come here, *just* to sell their shizz, glowing or not.. ..but, whatever.. I'm certainly not the boss of this place... ..yeah, yeah, '..and thank goodness!', har har har..

Anyhoo, Phil, just some food for thought..
    cheers..

I thought the OP said he had them manufactured.

    They are definitley purchasable elsewhere.

One should be aware of the slight danger but tubes like this are great for scientific demonstrations. Hopefully they are well anealed and thick enough such that unless broken there is no real radiation leakege of any measuarble level. Walking across the street is far more dangerous...

The Radioluminescent lamps are very nice and their features discussed in the post are also wonderful. I think that are not for house hold purposes, and best suits for the large function halls and other special occasions and for parties. Please produce some attachment links regarding the best places where these lamps can be used.
