Yeah I can get plenty of fans no prob at work 220 cfms are laying around.
I designed and built my own argon psu with spare (free) parts too using a bug-zapper xfmr for the igniter so i'm pretty well set. I'm just debating whether to get back into argons or keep pursuing the diode lasers and projectors--(they're alot quieter) --I do love the argons though

It is also possible to build a very cheap (basic) power supply using the element of an electric fire as a huge resistor. It will need some good cooling though.
I still have a soft spot for argons though. A good multiline beam through a diffraction grating is something to behold.

I agree. I am down to my last 60X and power supply and just can't bring myself to letting it go. These days, solid state is definately the way to go for low power stuff, it is certainly causing the death of the small air cooled argons...I still have a soft spot for argons though. This is a dumb question, I'm not that familiar with gasers...are those single or multi line? The picture of the beams looks like two different colors to me.
Not that I have any interest. I had a SP161C and the power supply upped my power bill $50 a month.
Sounded like a vacumm cleaner... NICE beam though...

The power distribution between the wavelengths can vary as tube pressure changes. Since one has more hours on it than the other, I'd say that's why the beams look a little different. (Or it could just be the camera acting up.)I have 2 ALC60X for sale. Both are doing 100+mW. One has been extensively rebuilt and features an extended chassis and omnichrom tube. Both have multiline optics.
And yeah, they suck up the power - big time. But they're fun to play with nonetheless.
