    Thanks Wayne.

I'm happy with how it turned out. I did drop it just after taking these pics

No Melblem date yet, but Jan, Feb sounds good to me.

How did I miss this thread earlier?
    Only just seen it!

    Kit... 110% mega machining.
    100% awesome on the CFRP.

I might have to bung something similar in the autoclave.

Are you making it a sister soon?
    - There is no such word as "can't" -
    - 60% of the time it works every time -

    Hey Dan, cheers brother

The next little sister is my little mini projector I designed ages ago and have all the parts for except the case. I've found a place to machine it for a reasonable price now. Well reasonable to me most sane people would have tapped out, but i've gone too far to back out now

Most definitely their will be two satellites joining the party.

I'm happy over all with the carbon. It's shape and rigidity turned out perfectly. Actually, while I was driving to my friends machine shop, I had to stand on the brakes while in traffic. 17kg of projector slid off the back seat and landed on top of the carbon lid! but it was tough as nails I did do a major goof when making the mould though. The primer I used on on the MDF decided it liked the part more than the mould. next time I'll use two pack. OH! it's made a labour intensive process a degree of magnitude worse. That mistake has cost hours and hours and hours of rework.

Next time I'll make the geometry a little easier to work with too. It required a few more cut pieces and made it a bit fiddly. With the autoclave will probably go pre-preg too.

Autoclave? funny you should mention that. Rich and I were talking about that a couple of days ago. As you can imagine when he worked at McLaren, he was spoilt rotten with all the top gear and of course had access to autoclaves to use. He has a couple of decommissioned LPG tanks about 1m diameter and around 3m long. We are going to convert them into autoclaves.

Have you got any pics of the one you use? I'm going to help Rich make the flanges and door locking and sealing mechanism. Then we'll get a coded welder to weld it together and then get it pressure tested.

Rich said there are a couple of different mechanisms. I might have to speak to my old boss who I helped make subsea sealed pods to house electronic test gear. If you design it so the the seal goes in the right place, the higher the pressure is the better its seals.

Hey Chad, If you see this, have you cot any pics of autoclave doors too

Got any pics of cool carbon bits you have made?

    Cheers
    Kit

Hey Jon thanks man! My friend who helped me with the carbon has got a vinyl cutter now, it's not as far fetched as you might think.

Mmm American muscle. I'm at my friends house helping him move. His baby is a 67 Camaro white with red racing stripes.
He's just fitted a new blower and is sitting on 20" and 19" rims

Hi Steve, thanks I just noticed your duel locations. What time of year and what part of Aus are you in?

    Hi Kit
Duel locations are because my secret dream is: to live in Australia.
    Anyway...
I've been in Aussie for 4 months about in 2003 (Sidney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth).
I've returned for holidays two times: 2007 and 2009. Both times I stayed there for 3 weeks: Cairns, Queensland tour, Great Barrier tour and a "bush" tour (Laura, Undara lava tubes, Chillagoe... etc. ...etc.)
    Your Nation is marvelous.
Guys....I apologize for this out-topic, but I really love Australia and New Zealand too (5 months in Auckland).

    Greetings from (almost) antipodes.

No need to apologies Steve. Glad you have had fun on your trips down our way. Keep us in the loop when you are planning your next trip. You might be able to make it to a MelbLEM. Also my Mum and Dad have been around Aus several times in their motor home Dad built. Let us know if you have any questions about places to visit. Mum and Dad will be able to give you some great tips.

New Zealand? Haven't been yet myself but the photos and stories from Dad are amazing. Everywhere you look, its a post card photo opportunity.

    Good luck and have fun.
