Yeah, but they are $3000 each.

This makes me think higher powered green diodes will be out soon; if they can get 200mW at 488nm the same power in 515nm shouldn't be too far off.

The 488's are not going to get cheap anytime soon. That wavelength is too green-blue for video.
That wavelength is special because there are lots of fluorescent applications that have been developed around that wavelength because it was available from argon lines.

They are For science guys, and they don't mind paying big bus for them.
    Don't hold your breath....

Apart from the massive costs, this diode would be much brighter than 445nm.

Just wondering how much brighter, maybe 30-40% ?

That would put it like 300mW of bright blue and single mode beautiful beam spec & includes ESD protection.

If I recall the 9mm 445 diodes were some millions of dollars to buy from Nichia but still some projector manufacturers were using these for a long time installed in complete projectors who's prices were far lower than the Nichia single diode prices, so with that I am sure the prices can be a hell of a lot lower for the right buyers and I am sure we'll soon start to see Laser projectors on the market with loads of knife edged 488 diodes.

I like the idea of the photo diode too, this could be used in conjunction with a driver for a safety feature, coupled to an output for the laser emission indicator led as an example or even real power out indication from the diode.

Neat, I love this new stuff.

its all about quantaties. casio, benq or others are buying them in thousend and thousends. I buy lenses in 500 pieces to get the price down same as peltiers. Not 10 or 20 but 100 at the time. So the price drops massively. I,m happy to give 100 euro discount if people buy 50 modules

Yes, but you'd need more of it for a good white compared with 445nm. That means unless you feel like knife edging 12, you'll have to bring the power of your other colors way down.

Of course, the need to bring other colors down is also some benefit especially with the hugely now expensive green.
