Default How to make a cooling fan in wooden case?

    Whats the best idea...?
I have a wooden case around my laser projector wich is 18mm thick, what would be the best way to build this in?
and should i have more then 1 fan? for example one fan blowing air in, second blowing out?
And should i place something at the end of the fans so no dust can enter the projector?

suppose you're thinkin' about a plate o' shrimp. Suddenly someone'll say, like, plate, or shrimp, or plate o' shrimp out of the blue, no explanation. No point in lookin' for one, either. It's all part of a cosmic unconciousness.

I knew i would have a reply like that.
It sounds very simple like you explain it, but i doubt it is that simple.
making a hole in the wood, then put in the fan....but as you can clearly see on the photo you gave me, the screws are in the shape itself of the fan.
So i drill a hole of 120mm for example, then put in a 120mm fan.....but how do i get it tight then? glue? that what other guys uses?
I could drill the hole smaller, but then the fan will stick on the inside or outside of the wood case, leaving a hole/gap of the wood....

the fan mounts against the inside of the wood and the fan filter/cover mounts on the outside.

I made a wooden case as well. Mine is big enough to hold an Aluminum optics table that is about 1 x 2 foot. I had a dual fan assembly that came out of a rack mount server case that has two fans that are about 4.5 inches each. Since I used an old AT computer power supply for high current +5 and +12 volts for the lasers, I just plugged the fans into that. I mounted them in the back under the table so they blow onto the scanner power supplies. With all the sides on the case they do a pretty good job of pressurize the whole box so I get a good airflow out of the hole I cut for the projection window.

    You can see it here:
    http://laserboy.org/forum/index.php?...sg5763#msg5763

The fans are in a frame and that is screwed to the structure of the case with no panels on it. Then the back panel has a hole cut in it to open to the fans.

It's been slightly changed since these pictures, but nothing to do with the case or fans.

    bqx,

i have a metal case, but the process is almost exactly the same. here are the photos of how i mounted my fans. maybe it will help. i used 8 fans. four filtered fans sucking air in and four non-filtered fans blowing air out.
