Default A patent on diffraction grating use? Need help!

This was sent by a friend. We could use your help.

Have you ever used two diffraction gratings one after another, for a laser effect?

A US company has recently received a patent for putting two diffraction gratings in front of a laser beam.. to make a star field. And is now requesting royalties from others who do this.

The whole industry needs some proof of prior art to show that this was commonplace prior to the filing of this patent application in the 2000's decade.. your support is needed.

If you can in good faith swear to having first hand experience with this, or otherwise show prior art, before the early part of the last decade, can you please tell me what year (earliest), and give me permission to put your name on a list of people who used two diffraction gratings in series for laser light effects, or who can otherwise attest to prior art in this area.

Also, do you have any pictures of this which predate the year 2000? This would be extremely helpful.

And, can you send anyone else our way who could in good faith swear to the prior art..?

Please send your confirmation, name, email and phone number, by end of Tuesday July 3, 2012,
If you don't want to post here and are willing, send me an PM.
    Thanks,

    chad

I would also hit up Greg at "http://www.lsdi.com/" as they had to have been doing this forever ago also.

Um, I may have it in in a book published in 1995. If not, I can attest...

Find DZ, he used that in one of the projectors at SELEM.

The original laserium show durring the "Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun" number used two diffraction gratings in series... that was 1973

That seems like it will be difficult to enforce. Hell... it's even demonstrated on eBay:

I know, It is a ridiculous patent. The problem is this company is in full on patent troll mode. They are demanding royalties for doing this. The intention is to have a large number of people and any pictures to aid in the smack down of this patent.

There are already many founding fathers of laser display people on the list and a bunch of prior art. We are just trying to make sure that evidence is so overwhelming that there is no hope in fighting it.

    thanks!

Who is the patent troll then?

You can probably find enough prior art over in the US. But if you need more, PM me and I’ll point you in the direction of some people that have been using gratings in that fashion since the 70’s.

The first to invent system favoured by the US sucks, but it is designed to, so that it can keep lawyers in business. At least over here, we have the first to file system, which sets an absolute date.

I’m all for IP protection when it is valid, but people trolling or making claims on prior art is just wrong.

Enforcing that patent will be impossible, in china there are 27 dollar toy lasers produced likely in the millions which do exactly this.

Take care, It could also be a SCAM.
