    Default DIY ADAT?

There are audio dacs which can be used as a laser controller.
But is there also a way to build your own ADAT?

A guide or a aim at the right direction would be much apreciated.
    Thanks

    For playback only:

Buy a suitable HD recorder or a EtherDream from J4CBO here.

    Etherdream plays wave files.

    For going both ways:

Certain audio cards, ie older Echo Layla, Some Echo Gina, are DC coupled to begin with.

Used Adats are about 100$ for the right ones.

sweet. its mostly because I want to sorta gift my friend gabe a adat so he can sell his work properly.
Or at least help him make one.

Playing back the wave files is no problem, i got LC-adat to convert to ilda.|

100$ is not expensive but imho it can be cheaper and easier.
ADATS are also big right? so shipping would be a pain I believe.

Edit: and with the older ones. you mean I can use those?

Black faced unit is a simple mod. Good luck with LC-ADAT many have tried and i think mike dunn and bill himself are the only ones that have gotten perfect tranfers. how is an ADAT gonna help him be more of a pro? They really are used no-where anylonger. Most have gone all hd-24 with the hard drive caddies.

Actually someone teached me how to use an ADAT quite some months ago.
And he recorded something and send me files and I actually got an very old show which projects perfect (well at least the projections looked great).

He wanted to sell me his ADAT later on, but for the price he was asking for I didn't do it.

The reason for the ADAT is that he's stuck with his software with NO ilda export... the software he used is not used by many which kinda sucks.
The show wasn't made with stockframes but own made frames, so it should be more then acceptible for him to be able to export.

If these are the shows he is letting Brad playback at SELEM with his permission I can convert them to wav's and forward to you for LC-ADAT conversion to ilda. PM me if you or he need this done.

For what you want to do, even if he gets an ADAT you will need a light pipe audio card rme emu etc to capture it back into the computer as way files to convert using lcadat.

Echo Layla works well, and is still supported to some extent, but you might need XP to use it.

Where in the world do you get that idea? 8 channel soundcards do not grow on trees, and are declining in popularity right now.

But if I read this right he needs the record function to make wav files to convert to ildas. A sound card will do no good. Tape is about the only affordable solution then capture back in via light pipe using abelton or the likes

so if its so cheap and easy why are you asking?

$100 to record 8 channels of audio and DC? where can you do that for <$100?
