    Default SELEM idea

I haven't really been keeping up with all the new laser diodes and optics lately because none of my lasers have burnt out lately. But, I am very interested in what people have going on as far as red and blue diodes and optics these days. I was wondering if it might be possible to set aside 30 minutes or so for folks to stop the shows and just project some static beams on the wall so that we can compare the various beams with each other and get an idea of what optics are being used. I guess this applies more to the home brew lasers but I am also interested in seeing how the off the shelf ones compare as well. I think it would be a very good exercise if the folks with the projectors don't mind doing so. It would certainly help me decided what might next laser might be.

Good idea, Gary. We can definitely do this in the cafeteria. Also, I know that X-laser has a new red laser they want to show us, and I believe Planters is going to bring some examples of his work as well.

I've got some of the original Maxyz modules in one of my projectors, plus a 635nm Lasever in another. Frank has one of the Kvant 642 nm reds, and he has two Chinese 650 nm reds as well. It's possible that Planters will have one of the new 637 nm reds with him, so that will round out the list.

I'd be very interested in that as well just to learn a little more about studying beams and what the uneducated eye is looking at. Maybe around this time is when polishedball could, if he's willing , (and I've bugged him) demonstrate how and what these various corrective lenses and prisms do.

Maybe John (polishedball) and Planters could get together and do a short presentation on optics? Something to think about...

One problem... I doubt 30 minutes will be long enough.

That depend on if it was a polishedball explanation of "this shit works"

or the technical explanation of planters..
