The graphics were good, sure, but just take a look at your audience..very unsophisticated. They were there for the mix, the beat, do dance, to be seen, to have fun, to wear silly outfits so people will look at them, the very typical narcissistic facebook generation ...not really there to be entertained and impressed by musicians illustrating their acquired or god given talent as in a rock concert, opera, play or symphony.

Im bored with electronic music within a minute - all of it - the repetitive beat and remixes of remixes of digital auto tuned voices illustrates lack of real talent (of most artist who produce "music" today)...(not talking about the dj here) the DJ does illustrate great skill in manipulating digital audio tracks stored in a computer, the programs are complicated and the one who uses them illustrates a great understanding of the "program". My own son produces this "stuff". THat is not what I am talking about here.

IM TALKING ABOUT THE "MUSIC" - IMHO it can NEVER compare to someone like Jimmy Page or Eric Clapton or hundreds of talented "musicians" of the past standing on a stage and producing original music, live, with a real instrument.

ponies = memes - next year it will be something different - kids get bored easy and want to think they have the next cool secret to baffle old folks.

give me a real band, playing real instruments, showing real talent and you dont need a lighting rig, lasers, indoor pyro, confettee cannons, smoke machines, bubble blowers, soap dance floors, or MDA to enjoy a night out. As far as that goes, the equipment and special effect technology used today really requires no great skills or talent to set up and operate, plug it in and turn it on. Oh well i could go on, but i wont.

this picture sums it up nicely...

Shame that you either see/have only been exposed to electronic music characterised by the terms you use in your post Pat.
There are many genres of electronic music, some of which even play their instruments!! *shock* And not an autotuned vocal in sight.

The mainstream/chart/music commodity sellers will take any type of music and make it 'shit' for the most appeal, electronic is not the sole domain, although its the easiest to replicate.

You are using Bonetti's defense against me, ah?

I thought it fitting, considering the rocky terrain.

theres a lot of original and non repetitive music out there, electronic too.
Just because there is a lot of bad music out there doesn't mean its all bad.

Im a huge fan of the older type music but the music i've seen my friends make is absolutely stunning.

yeah, my statement was pretty general in nature. And I am no authority on all genres of "electronic" music. You probably get a good idea of the shit im talkin about....you know...the shit...(which is a majority)

But when you hear Ringo Starr and Keith Moon play drums...they made mistakes and had bizzare hits which made it human, sure it can be replicated electronically but nothin like watchin them play drunk with sweat flying everywhere or just chillin on a stage being the back beat. You see, KISS was OK, and they sort of rocked...but they sucked with out makeup- gimmicks suck - remixes suck - be original or go home. Granted some bands suck too...but they suck because they have no talent. anyway...i digress...

To each his own i guess..

+1 for what Norty said. The modern tools for making music are just new tools.
You still need musical talent. The whole "this is real music and this isn't" thing is just a matter of perspective. If we really wanted to be old school and real,we would be totally unplugged in a cave banging two rocks together.

I love several genres of electronic music and I'll be the first to admit there is a lot of crap.

The difference today is that instead of producing music being the privalidge of people with access to million dollar studios everyone can have a go. Those with talent and those without.

Most of the mainstream electronic music which is mostly lacking soul is like cheap wine that people who just want to get drunk listen to and good for them, they are having fun.

As in all genres the top shelf stuff takes a bit more effort to find but is really worth it.

Slightly animated stills with no scenic backgrounds or storylines does not equal a good graphics lasershow... Come on..

I agree with Pat, they came for the whole experience, not the lasers..

That is why Laserman532 aka Pat is yawning.

And why I'm forming the "Ban the Bronies" Movement.

Pieter, you have so much talent, why do you waste it on a "Flash in the Pan" character that will evaporate into a tiny memory shortly.

Once this fad dies down, you will have nothing else to market. Enjoy your 15 minutes of fleeting fame..

Hint, these folks invite you because 1. Your cheap. 2. You haul out a lot of expensive gear for just travel costs. 3, Your marketable to youth. Once that goes away, will you be able to build something out of that? Once your older, you won't be getting free airfare. They are using you!

I know this. Why? Its much the same reason I GOT invited to scientific laser conferences, I bring the "million dollar toolkit". Much of which is in my brain, not the 450$ Platt armored, air transportable, tool case. If folks had to pay me what I would actually have to charge, I'd be setting at home. As lab/industrial lasers change from gas/cw/nanosecond to ultrafast pulses, I'm getting a lot less calls. But I AM setting here at almost no wages, learning ultrafast at one of the top 10 scientific universities in the US.. So I will still have a use in the near future.

Chew on that. When you have a wife and kids, Youtube will not pay the bills. You are not a Kardashian. You are not part of a Disney/Sony/Apple marketing empire.

I AM The Ghost of Christmas Past, I know of what I speak.

Pat, Do you remember the young Steve? Who walked up to you at a ILDA conf ? Who expected you to tell me all about Giant Pulse killer circuits in 60 watt Green Yags? All because I was young and thought I DESERVED to know how you made your money. Yeah, I was picking your brain that day, and you knew it. You had a nice suit on that day, not J.C. Penny.. Remember? Now I have to earn my money, and the free/cheap travel is gone.

Steve I'm not sure PJ is wasting his time. It's true that the ponies will fall out of fashion at some point but PJ is building real skills and experience that most young people will never get. The energy to do that is coming out of passion for something related to pop culture... so what. I spent my late teens years writing massive amounts of code for these silly text-only multiplayer internet games called muds. Now I'm sitting my basement yelling at you guys. Look what it did for me!
