Is it a waste of time to spend time with a child blowing soap bubbles when you could be inside teaching them math?

I say, grab the fad and run with it. Pirates, Harry Potter and vampires dominated the first decade of this century. Now, it's all about the zombie apocalypse and sparkling pussy vampires. If you get in when it is fresh, people will keep coming to you IMO. All the while, PJ perfects his craft. If he is having fun entertaining a group of equine furries, then who are we to argue?

"Pat, Do you remember the young Steve? Who walked up to you at a ILDA conf ? Who expected you to tell me all about Giant Pulse killer circuits in 60 watt Green Yags? All because I was young and thought I DESERVED to know how you made your money. Yeah, I was picking your brain that day, and you knew it. You had a nice suit on that day, not J.C. Penny.. Remember? Now I have to earn my money, and the free/cheap travel is gone.

    Steve"

sorry steve I dont remember you questions specifically, but of course i remember you. I do remember that when I announced it in florida (I had been using it for a year or so before that), it was accepted like..."something from another planet". I was swamped by people in the know asking all sorts of questions, I opened the covers, exposed it all, but it was so foreign at that time it was magic. now...meh...

I have always been involved with state of the art systems, so for me it was "just another gig". You talk ultrafast stuff, I was 21 and working on fempto second amplified fiber grating pulse compressors and all the technology to measure the pulses, to me it was just another day at work (SP) as a young applications engineer. I would install these in places like Sandia, livermore and universities as a young man, it was weird.

Haha, my suits had to be expensive, i was selling and installing the most expensive laser equipment in the world. When SP did trade shows, it had to be big, grand and expensive no room for anything sub perfection, SP Motto - "The pursuit of excellence is worth the effort" . THat is why i am broke today, I pumped every penny of profit back into my company in my own "pursuit of excellence" which in hindsight cost me a fortune. I was not smart enough to sock come cash away for this rainy day. The ferrari and other sports cars were more important for the Silicone Valley "image". damn I feel old, this generation is doing some real cool stuff with diodes, oh well...thats change, but IMHO, the plug and play technology makes them less educated engineers. No offense intended, but the joke between my friends was, we were peeling back the foreskins of technology...what ever that meant.

There are many genres of electronic music, some of which even play their instruments!! *shock* And not an autotuned vocal in sight.

The mainstream/chart/music commodity sellers will take any type of music and make it 'shit' for the most appeal, electronic is not the sole domain, although its the easiest to replicate.

I like electronic music but I also agree with Pat but going back to your Point Walter/Wendy Carlos - Switched On Bach (yea moog) http://grooveshark.com/#!/album/Switched+On+Bach/421853 (sorry my vinyl copies won't play here). Either way I need to get a cane so I go hang out with pat on his porch to shake and say get off my lawn (noting I am half his age) but hrrrrr. Clip art shows are boring, I did plenty of hypercard animations back in grade school not much different... Either way Hola sir Pat one of these days I will actually make it back from the town you said I would end up in near Dallas (puke).

I like older electronic music. J.M. Jarre, Patrick Ball, Don Dorsey, Brian Eno... I like some of the "newer" stuff like Orbital, Kraftwerk and Apoptygma Berzerk. I absolutely can't stand house. I hate that shit. Most of the new e-music is quite annoying. The way I look at it; if you can't make music without a mouse, you shouldn't be making music...

lol, that is why I put "newer" in quotes! I had to put something, because it isn't quite as old as Brian Eno or Jarre.... All good stuff though.

Kraftwerk are the grandfathers of Electronic music, formed in 1970!

Jarre's first album (Oxygene) was released in 76.
