[QUOTE=badger1666;246083]KTP vs. LBO? lbo slightly hygroscopic are the avdvantages worth putting up with it
and making sure the cavity is well sealed ?? not that it should not be anyway but would be worrying all the time the cavity was open and working on it

Message I just sent to Planters:

coated BBO and LBO crystals last one year in the open air here in humid Ohio

We actually have lasers where they are yearly consumables. The logs say we get two years or so per when they are in open air.

The lasers with dessicants go for 5 years.

Its not the body of the crystal that crumbles, its the coated faces. They turn grey. You move them over and use it some more.

Our other lasers just mount them in boxes with Ar coated windows glued on.

Not a problem with some thought....

    OK,

    Good News,

I found my Vandate, its 4x4x5 mm with .7% doping. The papers call for .8%, but a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.

Its AR coated BOTH SIDES for 1064/808

I just ordered one reflect 1064 pass 532 mirror
and one reflect 1064 pass 880/808 mirror, both flats, this cost 88$ + shipping.

This gives us most of one of the two optional cavity designs, A v-fold, when I find a short radius 1064/532 Mirror.

For a group buy, this gentleman will coat us optics sets (3) mirrors for about 75$ a optic at 10 sets.

I pick up the pump diodes in the morning.

OK, the flat that reflects 1064 and transmits 808 is the high reflector. The reflect 1064/transmit 532 mirror is the output coupler. The rod sets between the two of them. The output coupler is tilted to make the V in the "V" fold. Its pointed toward the ktp/lbo. The unfocused beam passes through the ktp and hits the third mirror. A curved mirror on the far side of the ktp is curved and is mirror #3. It does two things: Make up for the rod thermal lensing by folding the light "back in", and 2, focus the reflected 1064 in the ktp. The focused 1064 turns into the green and goes out the OC. What 1064 (most of it) does not go out as green makes the round trip back down the cavity to the rod to form the feedback for the lasing.

In laserscope parlance, these three are the LAM (LONG ARM MIRROR) SAM (SHORT ARM MIRROR, ie the KTP arm) and OC.

Dont worry, I walk over to the lab across campus with a hundred litres of Liquid Xenon detecting wierd particles and I get the feeling I'm on the WRONG playground... I'll never understand the flavors of up, down, charged, and strange Quarks! Or I go talk to the lady next door who researches the damage AIDS does to DNA and have no idea how she studies a protein that snips a tiny segment of DNA and ONLY that segment... Steve

As expensive as it is, I would not be allowed close enough to find out.... Looking in the door is as close as I could get.

    Steve;

What is the current requirement of the fiber-fed pump diode you mentioned? Mo is looking at transistors, you see...

1.8 volts, 13 amps. So Size it for 15 or 20 amps.
