    I very much doubt that you "need" one, although it would be better to have a new one to bring it up to current standards, The 17th edition boxes are a lot better and safer than the old rewire-able type fuse.

    What I'm saying is don't let your local electrician tell you it needs to be done, just so he makes a few more quid from you.

    Sounds like its either been overloaded or taken close to its maximum loading with a poor connection internally.

    1KW = approximately just a little more than 4 amps from memory, so around 3KW is approaching 13amp.

    The tumble dryer will be probably around 2,500 - 3000 watts on its own so 10-12 amps.

    Add in the washing machine and freezer and your probably up at or exceeding the 13 amps rating for the socket.

    BTW, are you an electrician Tony?
