Picture # 2 that Clandestiny posted shows Spec on the left, Allthatwhichis in yellow in the back, Dzurcher in green (looking at the screen) and Bill Brenner at the computer in the foreground.

Picture # 3 shows the same 4 people in the same order, but off to the far right you can see a fat guy in a tie-dyed T-shirt... That would be me (Buffo).

Picture # 4 shows me on the left (you can see my Alphalite projector sitting in front of me) and allthatwhichis is on the right. In the center is the large projector that Clandestiny brought. (You can see the Aurora power supply sitting on a chair in front of it.)

Picture # 5 shows me on the left (allthatwhichis is behind me), Dzurcher is in the middle, followed by Bill Brenner (Pangolin), and a friend of Allthatwhichis is sitting on the far right.

We don't have a good picture of Astroguy or his wife posted, but I think I have one on my camera. (I need to get that stuff uploaded!) Also, I don't have any pics of Marconi, Maxy, or any of the guests he brought. (They had to leave early, and I don't know if anyone had their camera out yet or not...) Also, I don't see any pictures of Clandestiny, but perhaps Spec has some on his camera...

Looks like you had a swell time. Thanks Buffo for pointing out who everyone was - please don't take this the wrong way but I just knew that would be you when I saw the guy in the tie-dyed shirt . Also I dunno why but I expected Bill to be much older - I had an image in my head of a some sort of college professor type - dunno why but I just did.

Anyway this gives us more of an incentive over here to get together.

    Default FLEM video clips

    Hey Rob!

Glad you liked my shirt! I figure it's always good to wear something that makes it easy to identify yourself when going to a function like this with lots of people that have never met before. (Though I should probably admit that I've got a collection of about a dozen of those colorful shirts... Never really got into tye-dye until about 5 years ago, and now I'm hooked. Go figure.)

I've been working on the video from the event over the weekend. Unfortunately, my video camera is a piece of crap. The auto-focus was screwing up just about all day during the event, so a lot of the video I took is junk. Then too, scanned images don't always come out well on video anyway because of the difference in frame rates between the projector and the camera.

However, I do have several clips of the beamshows that we did, and so far I've managed to capture a couple of the graphics shows that look fairly decent. The beamshows are a bit repetitive (at least for clips #1 through 9) because we kept playing the same music... But the colors are absolutely incredible! (And remember that a video camera doesn't even come close to capturing the true beauty of a lasershow!)

Anyway, the files have been re-compressed so that they run about 3 megs per minute. That seemed to be a nice trade-off between quality and file size. I'm uploading them to Thomas's FTP server right now. (Cruch, your public FTP server is off-line at the moment. Don't know what's up with that...) But any of you that were working on the PhotonLexicon community LaserShow project should have access to Thomas's FTP site.

I'm hoping that Spec will log on to Thomas's server once I'm finished uploading the files and snag all of them. Then we can host them here on PL for everyone to see.

The two files labeled "begining" are shots of the room setup. One actually shows part of a beamshow with the room still lit up. (You'll see that same show later on in a lot of the beamshow clips) The other "begining" clip gives you a good idea of what went on when we weren't watching laser shows. (Several little groups of geeks kibitzing about this or that...) You'll also get a better look at some of the equipment we had.

The beamshow files are just that, beamshows. The files 1 through 11 have several projectors running at the same time, and *most* of them were not syncronized to the beat. (Well, not intentionally anyway - we did get lucky a few times.) The main RGB projector was usually set up to match the beat, but even that one sometimes ended up playing a different show that the music in the background. Don't let that detract from the beauty of the lasers though.

The abstract clips are shot as if the projector was displaying a beamshow, simply because the video looked better when the camera was pointed at the projector instead of the screen. The abstracts didn't really come out very nice when I pointed the camera at the screen. (My camera's fault, not any fault of the show or the projector.)

The graphics show clips are rather jerky, and they exhibit a lot of flicker because of the frame-rate issue mentioned above. Still, they were cool to watch so I grabbed the best ones I could. (If I get some more time I'll see if I can salvage a couple more of them...) I only got part of Pink Floyd's "Money", saddly. (When we set up the camera to grab the whole show later in the day, the auto-focus went out and all I got was fuzz on the tape.)

For the record, Abstract2, Beamshow15, and Beamshow1 are my favorites. Enjoy!

Default Direct link to FLEM videos

Ok, several people have asked for a direct link to the videos. If you do not have an FTP client (Smart FTP is a good one, and it's free!) installed on your computer, you can use Internet Explorer to log onto Cruch's FTP site. (Hooray for Cruch for resetting the server so I could upload the files there as well!) If you've got an FTP client installed already, scroll to the bottom of this message for the login info.

Otherwise, if you're going to use Internet Explorer, you need to check the following setting first:

Launch Internet Explorer, go to the Tools menu, select Internet Options, then click the Advanced tab. Under "Browsing", be certain that the "enable folder view for FTP sites" box is checked. Then click OK.

Now you can click on this link: ftp://ilda@80.89.36.105/Laser%20Show%20Video/
It will connect to the server (may take several seconds) and then you will see a password window.
Enter "swap" (all lower case, and omit the "" marks) as the password and click the "remember password" box.
Then click the "log on" button.

Now you'll see a folder for the FLEM videos. Double-click it to open it (remember, this is a folder view - so just like in a window on the desktop, one click selects but two clicks will open.)Now you should see a list of all the videos from FLEM that I uploaded. (Well, in another 15 minutes or so they'll all be there - I'm still uploading as I'm posting this.)

You can double-click a file to load it directly into Windows Media Player (and from there you can save it to your hard drive), or you can right-click on a file and select "save to folder", or you can simply click and drag the files onto your desktop (or any other open folder window.)

    Enjoy!

    Adam

PS: If you do have an FTP client, just log on to 80.89.36.105 on port 21 with the login of ilda and a password of swap. Navigate to the Laser Show Video folder, and inside that one you'll find the FLEM video folder. In there are all the clips!

PSS: I'm going to re-post this information in the other thread in the lounge...

Hey guys, I haven't been able to get my video off the camera. My girlfriend had a stomach virus all weekend and I ended up gettin bronchytus... Had to take two days off work each and we both went to the ER. It may be another week before I get mine up. I may just send em to adam when I get it off the camera.

I wonder if we can video the Floyd show in March... :?
