Hehe... Never let it be said that geeks don't know how to throw a party! Man, back when the Charleston Area Amiga User's Group was active, we used to throw computer parties at my house that started on Saturday morning at 8:00 AM and often didn't break up until Sunday afternoon the next day! Held it every other Saturday like clockwork for 3 solid years. (Only had to cancel twice, and one of those cancellations was for C-mas!) Of course, I'm not 25 anymore, so I can't really handle that these days...Originally Posted by DZurcher

Sorry to hear about your scheduling problems Dave. I guess we'd be better off having Paul bring the stereo equipment then. If you are able to attend, please bring the hazer if you can get it. If it turns out that someone else already has one, well, no harm no foul. But noone else has mentioned that they have one, and a hazer is a lot better than a fogger any day! Heck, if it isn't too much trouble, go ahead and bring the el-cheap-o foggers too. It would be good to have a spare or two just in case someone's fogger craps out.
Several people will be bringing whitelight projectors, and to the best of my knowledge you are the only one that is running 635 nm in a full RGB projector. Everyone else is using Maxyz modules at 650 ~ 660 nm. So, yeah, plenty of opportunities to compare colors. (Dreambeamz is the only other person I know in the area that uses 635 nm red in a projector... I don't know if he'll be bringing that one or not, but in any case that particular projector is only ryg at the moment.)
We haven't talked about that yet. I was sort of hoping to get started a little earlier - say around 10 am or so - just in case it runs a little long. I don't know if Paul is going to want us there all night! But what do you guys think? So, it looks like Saturday Jan 27th is going to be the best day, how about a time? Noon, 3pm?
I'll probably stay in Tavares at my Mom's place. It's only about 90 min from Orlando, so I can drive there and back the same day. On the other hand, if this does turn into a longer event, I might just grab a room in Orlando vs trying to drive back in the wee hours of the morning.

Man... You must like to live dangerously! Better watch out when she comes after your ass with a rolling pin for making a remark like that about her in a public forum... 'Cause I'm telling you: that rolling pin upside your head is gonna leave a mark! (And you thought the headache from a hangover was bad???)Originally Posted by allthatwhichis

Mr allthatwhichis, here is a new years conundrum for you. correct the link so everyone may see.
The knowledge of this answer will determine your entrance to the event, -as I am still trying to determine whether or not you are the laser police- in which case i will need to evaluate all laser effects for that day, can you can be trusted?
what is this in the picture?

I hope you're joking Paul... He's probably half your age. (Well, he's nearly half my age anyway.) Besides, even if he was a representative from the CDRH, it wouldn't matter. This is a private event, and there isn't any commerce involved. Thus, the CDRH has no jurisdiction. (Or were you joking? If so, then I've been trolled. Damn!)Originally Posted by clandestiny
Actually - I wouldn't mind meeting some of the folks from the CDRH and talking with them. The few times I've spoken with them on the phone have been quite pleasant; I'd like to think that for the most part they're just people trying to do their jobs as best they can. (Of course, since I'm not doing shows commercially, I really don't have any reason to fear them like someone that is in the business might.)
Then too, you have to consider some of the pictures that Allthatwhichis has posted... The last one I saw had his scanners and lasers just sitting on a countertop. No enclosure, no shutter, no kidding! (Damned if I know how he manged to keep it aligned without screwing everything down, but he did it...) Somehow I doubt a CDRH employee would post a picture of such a "work in progress" projector! (No offense Allthat; my layout is pretty ghetto too!)
That looks vaguely familiar... It reminds me of the multi-line argon lasers that the Navy was experimenting with as a means of communicating with submarines while they were submerged. Heavy-duty, metal-encased multi-line argon tubes that were rated for something like 10 watts. They never could seem to make it work right though.what is this in the picture?
But then again, those units were extremely rare, so chances are the unit you have is something else. (And to the best of my knowledge, those Navy argons were never mounted inside a nice, neat, sheet-metal head enclosure like yours is, so that pretty much rules it out right there.)
In fact, looking more carefully at the thing, I'm pretty sure that it's actually a copper vapor laser.

ok , i was joking. i noticed that mr allthatwhichis mentioned in his bio he likes pink floyd. i am suprised he didn't pick up on my floydian references in my post. i was just leading him to water with the picture as a clue. what a bunch of kill joys.
yes, you are right, it is in fact a 50 watt copper vapour laser :P
