There is a forum dedicated to a more do-it-yourself approach to laser display.
There are a few software projects hosted there that are compatible with the LaserBoy DAC.
There is also a lot of information about how to choose and modify a sound card and how to make the correction amp that goes with it.
There is also tons of information about it here on this forum and on the other popular laser forum.
You might find there are a few people out there who think they know more about it than I do!
Best advice, keep and open mind and ask questions.

All software has a learning curve usually proportional to its capabilities and unique features. Pointing with a mouse is in no way easier than tapping a key.
james, I see your are well seasoned in this department. Would you have any DAC's already built that you could possibly sell to me?
I only have three of the printed circuit boards that drlava and I put out there a few years ago.
I can advise you on how to make a correction amp on copper proto board!
It's pretty simple as far as home brew electronics go.
My design will also allow you to use just about any sound card with a DC offset from 1.2 to 2.5 VDC. Other kits may not give you this flexibility.
If you want an external USB unit, I would suggest using the Sabrent USB-SND8. It gives you 8 channels you can use for all your laser signals plus left and right audio tracks all in one wave file!
It has a DC offset of only about 1.2 VDC. Correction amps with a 5.1V zener or a -5V fixed regulator will not be able to compensate for this.
In the mean time, you might want to download the LaserBoy distribution and start working with the app. It has a bit of a learning curve.

LOL, james your good
Well, so far my LaserBoy DAC/Correction amp is working as per design. My scanner has some issues with Galvo's being off a bit. I need to find out how I can possible tweak those "China" Galvos. That aside, I must say, James is God. Those that know or dealt with James you know what I mean....
suppose you're thinkin' about a plate o' shrimp. Suddenly someone'll say, like, plate, or shrimp, or plate o' shrimp out of the blue, no explanation. No point in lookin' for one, either. It's all part of a cosmic unconciousness.
So far I have yet to see shows made with laserboy to be honest. It doesn't seem exactly user friendly nor does it seem to have a proper GUI for artists, especially graphical ones.
Correct me if I'm wrong. But I'd like to see some pictures of this GUI if so.
