I will post some pics soon. I am just finishng the Amp Correction board and modded the DAC. I am in the tweakng phases, again my Galvos are off. LaserBoy at first, yes made me want to drink and roll and smoke a fatty...... It reminds me of DOS! The biggest issue I have is my ignorance to the language, I do not understand what the words and terminalogy mean or do. This is all new to me and I dove into this blindly. I do have a bit of electronics background so that did help me to build the Correction Amp and Mod the soundcard. So, as far as it is user friendly..... for myself I need to spend more time with LaserBoy and figure things out. Like Blackberry users tring to use an Android phone...... I am used to programs and computers doing everything for me and in Laymans terms (idiot proof).
GUI, I am not sure what artist expect or use. I know that LaserBoy will work on any computer regardless OS, I know my Correction Amp is 16bit,I have 8 channels available (I am only using 5), I know that this project cost me under $80.00 to build and purchase the Soundcard, the LaserBoy program is free.... which is important to me. Again, I am an amature. Mr.James Lehman creator of LaserBoy and designer of Correction Amp has been helping me out unconditionally, has all the answers I am looking for and constantly checking up on me with progress and making sure I understand the theory behind it, why and what things mean and do.

It's been a lot of fun working with macostantini. He gets right down to it and gets things done. He built the correction amp from scratch on a point to point copper proto-board. I think that was very impressive. We had a couple of issues getting things to work right in Windows 7, but it's all good now.

Plus he has a dual input O-scope and he knows how to use it. How cool is that?

LaserBoy presents it all to you in real terms. It makes no attempt to simplify or abstract anything! It lets you see everything as it is in the 3D short integer vector environment that defines color laser art. Once you get the way the keys are laid out and you get a feel for what lower-case does vs. upper-case and so on, you will see there is method to the madness. When you really get it, you can actually reach in through the keyboard and touch the art! It also does things that no other laser application can do!

Could someone please point macostantini in the direction of some free ilda files? He needs to whip together a new year's show ASAP!

All software has a learning curve usually proportional to its capabilities and unique features. Pointing with a mouse is in no way easier than tapping a key.

Thank you James, I just did everything you told me to do and it worked. Also, I am after some ilda files for New Years. Just a simple "Happy New Year 2013" banner would be great.

    Like this?

I guess, after tomorrow, we'll all know if it's worth the bother!

macostantini, I have had some luck creating simple frames for manipulation in LaserBoy by using bmp2ild v2 to trace outlines generated with paint or some other graphics program that can write a .bmp file. GIMP is a free graphics editor if you need one.

Hello tribble, thank you for your reply. I do have some experience with GIMP. I use GIMP at work to crop images we load onto multimedia video radios we install for dealerships... usually logos for bootup sceen. Thanks for the advice

You can also open a bitmap into the background of LaserBoy and use LaserBoy's drawing and coloring capabilities to make art that is already in the best form for laser display.
