Outdoor Projector??

so the plan would be for a projector in the front garden projecting onto the house for xmas and things.

probably around 200mw per colour and dt40 scanners.

getting power wouldnt be a big deal, but fb3 connection would be an issue, so i was thinking built in fb3 running wireless.

xmas time/december is very cold so projector would possibly need to be heated

all comments and suggestiosn welcome

I have thought of doing similar, thou I also thought of fitting a cheap camera on the projector so you can monitor, make adjustments from in the warm.

yeah i hear what your saying, i do have some cheap £20 wireless cameras i could pop in

how would you run the fb3 wireless? i have been looking for good ways to do this for a while.. will normal usb to ethernet adapters do the magic?

a) Source a local surplus / used / eBay one of these: http://www.blisslights.com/images/st...s/LSSeries.jpg ..but not as a 'Blisslight', just the 'Exterior security-cam enclosure' - really-tough, usually already wired for power / seals against dust, etc, and sometimes, even heated windows, etc..

..and b) Get a 'Chromalox' (or equivalent..) "electronic enclosure heater", with thermostat; I gotta jet, but perhaps you can start here: http://www.chromalox.co.uk/ - then check eBay UK, etc... you don't need a large-one to be effective - they work great.. see this post: http://www.photonlexicon.com/forums/...0113#post70113 - Sorry for all the obnoxious punctuation..

U bet.. fyi, http://www.photonlexicon.com/forums/...3&d=1227247184 you could prolly get away with one 1/4 this size - this was for a 12" x 24" x 60" PJ-box, and it kept the entire interior quite-well at 75˚ (F), in a sometimes 45˚-ambient room.. very-efficient little panels..

Hi Andy, a solution for the FB3 would be to use a small PC with sufficient grunt to run QS/FB3 at the projector, use a WiFi access point connected to the PC LAN port and then you can remote to the PC with VNC.

If you really need heating, you're power bill may have to feel the wrath of trying to heat an outdoor object. MCΔT = MCΔT tells us that heat flows faster to an object with a great change in temp. So as long as the projector is cold, heat transfer will be great, but as it heats up it will become increasingly more difficult to continue to focus heat towards the projector - it would rather be lost to the cold environment. You may need forced air heating -> on the inside of the case. No sense in heating the case itself since it is very well thermally coupled to the cold air around it.

Oh, and if you use an ordinary glass slide for the aperture window, you can use rain-x window wax to keep melted ice all balled up into large water droplets which slide off the window only because of gravity.

Have you considered the theft/vandalism potential? The cam will only be of value when you are watching it and the laser will attract attention to the enclosure. With a laptop, FB3 and RGB projector you will have maybe upwards of $2,000 exposed.
