I got mine. Unfortunately, when I hooked up the diodes to test, my last remaining Flexmod decided to shit the bed. (That makes 3 dead drivers now - grrr!)
Waiting on a replacement (not a Flexmod!) to arrive before I can start testing. Need to be able to drive 4 of the M140 diodes (series-parallel arrangement) at around 2 amps each in order to get enough optical power onto the faces of the PBS to really do a good stress test.

An LM317 can't pass enough current to power 4 of the M140 diodes. I've built a few of the other drivers that are listed in the FAQ, including one with a passbank, but I never really liked the performance of any of them. I don't want to risk $200 worth of diodes on one of those designs. I'd rather wait for a proper driver with really good current control. (I'll be pushing these M140's pretty hard in order to stress-test the faces of the PBS, but I don't want them to die, since after the test is complete I plan to use them in a pair of projectors I'm building.)

Study the text. You'll be surprised what is possible with that one. Even the LM317 data sheet shows that you can gang them. And with the LM338, directly compatible in this case, you might not even need to do that. As to risk, try it on something less important, then when you see how that behaves (Sam Goldwasser has seen one of these, and saw no problems in his test), you can try it on something else. You'll never know if you don't try, but you DO know that a driver you trusted failed you, several times. So try this one, don't dismiss it until you have. You clearly DO dismiss it, as not a 'proper driver' with proper current control. As the datasheet shows, an LM317 is a specialist in current control, it's part of how it works... There's a thread on this forum somewhere with someone building one. He thought it was wrong until he discovered some error in his work, and when that got fixed he seemed happy enough.
