May be just me, but I forgot this was going on because for over a month there was nothing...I feel others did the same. I've been waiting to see if everyone pays before I do, or at least most. I apologize but I like to try and budget myself, and when nobody is paying..well, I'm not funding that money pit.

So by your logic and assuming all others have the same right to do that as you... No one will pay and the whole concept of a group buy is pointless.

Clearly you don't understand the "ground rules". If you put your name down then that signifies a commitment to pay regardless of who else had paid. It's about honour, integrity and honesty.

Some guidelines:
1. If you want it now and don't care to get a deal, don't participate in a GB. They can sometimes take a while but you get a better deal.
2. If you put your name down and want to opt out, LET EVERYONE KNOW!
3. If you put your name down and say nothing at all and don't pay up when the collection plate comes around, you are banned from GBs

I'd appreciate it if we would stop this call for "banning people" from group buys - really?. I responded privately to Andy regarding my circumstance on this already.

This has not proceeded as a normal group buy, as it has become obvious that there are only a select few of us that want to build with these diodes. We are approaching 3 months and still do not have this finalized... a lot can change in that time.

Good luck - I hope everyone will report back on their results with these diodes.

I'm fully aware of how a GB goes, this isn't my first rodeo, but when some schmuck says they want to do it, then I come back, having forgot about this, and see that we have 23 who have paid, I'm not going to pay. Last night was my first time checking this GB after quite some time after losing faith. I saw the 23 payers, and the talk of cancelling. Obviously this going to go through, so I'm not just going to throw money in knowing 100% that I'm getting it back as a refund in a couple days anyway. I guess you could consider this me "opting out".

If people start paying (doubt it) then I'll gladly pay my due, as my diode seems to be in the 525 range and it looks basically the same as my 532s.

Yes, really. The thing is, you spoke up. You messaged Andy and let him know that you were opting out. That is fine. I am talking about people who just sat on their hands waiting for the rest of us to pay before they decided to. They didn't want to tie up their money but didn't care that the rest of us did while we waited for them. It's plain rude. True, this GB took a while, longer than most but that isn't an excuse to just say "F*ck it, at least my money won't get tied up." If it takes too long for your taste, man up and let everyone know you're opting out.

It sounds like you're calling yourself the schmuck, as you are one of the people directly affecting the group buy though your attitude and lack of commitment.

Regardless of the reason, this demonstrates a complete lack of integrity from not honouring your commitment to this group. I'm not saying you have no integrity, it just seems from your actions here that you don't.

The required charateristic of a person involved in a group buy for such a niche product that very few people can justify purchasing and looking to get best prices for a bulk discount is... patient. We have to be patient. So it also seems that you are impatient. Too impatient for group buys for niche products such as these laser diodes. Please don't involve yourself in one again if this is the case.

Are you sussing out a small order from your source or do we expect refunds? which way is it looking?

An update would be nice, i know your a busy man, so when you can let us know where we are up to.
