    Default DMX with Spaghetti

Hello all. I have a close friend of mine who sets his place up for halloween as well. He saw my 2012 setup and was impressed with how the lights were synchronized with the sound effects. I let him know that I used Pangolin LD2000 to control DMX lights. He cringed at the price and asked if there was a low price alternative. I cannot seem to find decent software with an easy timeline interface that works similar to LD2000 (LD2000 is not easy, but it isn't too difficult). I know Gary had introduced DMX to Spaghetti some time ago but I also remember seeing him post that he hadn't messed with DMX much. How does the DMX control via timeline work in Spaghetti? Has anyone used it? What USB DMX devices will it work with? Hopefully Gary can interject a little here. Thanks for any input. If it is pretty easy to use, I will most likely buy a copy.

That sure works, but make sure your DMX controller is supported (Easylase, Riya, also Enttec I believe). Or you could ask Gary to support his particular controller.
See these threads on the Spaghetti forums:

Spaghetti does both lasers, DMX lighting and video.

Spaghetti also does TTL control. As for DMX, you deal with it similar to how you deal with ILDA files in Spaghetti. You create a DMX track for your device and then create DMX events on your track. Let's say you have your Halloween show and you have some fancy DMX strobe light that you want to flash at time 0:02:00 to 0:03:00. You'd create a DMX track, and then an event at 0:02:00 to turn it on and another at 0:03:00 to turn it off. If you wanted some light to fade you could create an event for some time period and stretch it out so that the light starts at some level and ends at another.

DMX is supported on the Easylase, Riya, and Lumax controllers right now. I can add support for other controllers if there is interest.

Awesome. Thanks guys! My buddy won't be using any lasers, just DMX. Let me price out some controllers. Wow, Spaghetti has come a long way!

If no lasers, look at freestyler dmx.

There is also a free program called Vixen that was developed specifically for people that do those amazing Christmas lights shows. It supports various hardware, some of it is homegrown. I have never actually used or even seen the software in action but it might be worth checking out.

Freestyler, while being a great program, does not have a timeline.

Chamsys MagicQ has a timeline although I'm not sure if its unlocked without a piece of their hardware connected.

You are using Bonetti's defense against me, ah?

I thought it fitting, considering the rocky terrain.
