Default large reflective burst diffraction grating sheet

    Hi guys,

I have a project I'm designing at the moment and i'm sourcing parts.

I'm looking for a roll of reflective burst diffraction grating. I'm away from my computer so haven't got the exact dimensions I need, but a roll 12"/300mm wide would be about right. A company that cut large pieces to size would be ideal.

I need to cut out some quiet large pieces. Thats why I need a roll.

Any tips? I've had a quick look around but I've not spotted what i need yet.

    Thanks
    Kit

here is an ebay sale on one lot of ten 12x12 inch pieces, I think 12 inches is the largest size I have seen sold there, the seller has several listings for lots of sizes, check it out.,
    good luck

that's onestoplasershop, they're good folks and very reputable. you might try calling them directly, they have a lot of inventory that isn't on their ebay or website.

suppose you're thinkin' about a plate o' shrimp. Suddenly someone'll say, like, plate, or shrimp, or plate o' shrimp out of the blue, no explanation. No point in lookin' for one, either. It's all part of a cosmic unconciousness.

    Thanks guys

yeah I saw the OneStop listings but it's transmissive. I'd still need to glue it to a mirror for what I'm doing. I'll do this if I have to but reflective is my preference. It's going into an assembly that needs to be robust and not too fiddly to build and maintain.

I've been doing some more experiments today and I think the effect I'm after will actually look better with several small pieces instead of large pieces like I thought.

So I guess i'm still looking for reflective grating but smaller pieces are ok. It's a narrow strip that will be glues to a large diameter ring with a chamfer. e.g. a conical surface.

You haven't been specific about lines per inch for the grating.

When I bought diffraction sheet, I found it difficult to buy it in the right spacing for laser display use, and the results vary quite significantly, with some with only the 1st order visible.

Personally, I'd buy decent FSM and mount the film myself (which is what I did for my bounce gratings)

You may also find it hard to find a burst sheet, however you can just overlay the film at 90 degrees to each other to obtain the burst effect (but you'll need twice as much sheet obviously)
Overlaying sheets with different line spacing will give other interesting results.

You are using Bonetti's defense against me, ah?

I thought it fitting, considering the rocky terrain.

Pity you need something so big as Medialas have some very nice looking burst mirrors at very reasonable prices. These are zero order suppressed, 3mm glass but they are 10cm diameter:

Don't know if they could source you anything larger, you'd have to ask.

Hi Norty. Im looking for arounnnnd 6deg/order. Yes, I think OneStopLaserShop burst film over FSM should do the trick.

Hi Al, that is handy to know they have that. It's a bit expensive for this application but looks good for scan through.

    thanks guys

Holowalls here in Cali should be able to fix ya up.. http://www.holowalls.com/colorfilms.php ..they're right near-by our shop, so if ya need some quick help with testing a piece before you buy a large quantity, lemme know - I reckon I could buzz-over and shoot a beam on it 4 ya..

..should be no problem for them to 'ship Intntl / down under' - ie: here's an app they did in Spain, at the Guggenheim... http://www.holowalls.com/images/gallery/1236711835.jpg (..would love to know whose OPSL-rigs those-are.. ..they've just *gotta be* with that vibrancy / power.. ..you can 'tile' the stuff, and go about as big as you'd ever want.. http://www.holowalls.com/images/gallery/1223240269.jpg ..also, 'vinyl-cutter compatible' - http://www.holowalls.com/images/gallery/1223237612.jpg ..for special-apps..

Anyhoo, I do-remember them having just 'straight-up burst', but I don't see it listed, directly.. (prolly considered too 'regular', nowadays, lol.. So, if you contact them, ask for Kevin, tell 'im Jon from DayStar / Laserium sent ya, and what yer lookin for, and I'm sure he can fix ya up. again, I'd be happy to spin-by and test / confirm a particular-pattern, if-helpful..

..and I will-say, that, depending on your app (I assume you're searching for the 'classic x-grating burst'..) or, can deal with something burst-ish, but more 'organic', you just may find that something 'non-classic x-grating' will fit the bill even-better, vs the stuff we're used-to... the guy's got a plethora of different options... pretty cool Co.

    Hope this helps..

    Hi Jon,
    Thanks for the clues mate
    Interesting stuff they have there!

I'll contact them and ask if the have a sample swatch I can buy.

I ordered some of the 6"x6" burst film from OSLS.
After some hands on experimentation I've realised the effect I'm after will probably
Look better with several small prices spread out instead of one large piece.
I'm keeping this project on the low low till I've finished it.
If the idea in my head works out it should be a unique effect.

Keep an eye out for any quality burst gratings suitable for scan through as we'll.
this is for my ongoing project to add scan through to my projector.
I ordered a few CLP gratings from Spectrabeam and am very impressed.
The one below was out of stock and possibly indefinitely by the sound of things.
CLP Glass Grating GNT-1-50C Grid Narrow Transmission 6° D50mm round

If you come across anything suitable I'd be very interested.

I want to make a very compact assembly that can independently rotate 2-3 50mm ish gratings for scan through effects.
Also it would be able to slide in and out each grating independently. E.g. 0,
1,2or 3 rotating or static gratings in series.

I know I can do it I just can't get the size gratings I want.

Having very flexible scan through control for scanning multiple company logos at sub MPE levels is what I'm trying to do.

    Cheers
    Kit

U bet... Also, if you're now more-after transmission v reflection, we've got some killer burst-grate, in house... lo / mid / high-order stuff...

Well... not exactly 'very compact', but... works the charm... http://www.photonlexicon.com/forums/...2&d=1272570930
...so, you've got up-to 3 'rounds in the chamber', but then, when you want another set of 'scan-glasses', they're quickly 'interchangeable' with this rig, as-well.

    PM if-interested in more details..
    cheers..
