This, unfortunately is the future of laser entertainment. Sharpy/5R beam heads and new advances will replace laser beams for their full color, brightness and ability to scan the audience. Full-wall projection eliminates the need to have a laser company outline a 'fork' when you already have one, including the candle and other non-vector imagery to adequately impress your audience. Sad but true from a professional laser business owner's perspective.... unless we roll with the new tech, just enjoy the show!
I agree with this to some degree, but I don't see coherent light being displaced completely by 3D mapped projections, sharpies or anything else. There are many effects where lasers are the best instrument for the job and the recent drop in associated component prices make them more attractive than ever.
As demonstrated by the talented imagineers at Disney, choosing the best technologies available makes for an entertaining show that will continue to be appreciated even after projection mapping and sharpies are commonly used and recognized by most audience members. Few people are patient enough to watch a particular effect for longer than they would want to listen to a guitar solo. This show recognizes this limitation and keeps things looking fresh for 20+ minutes. (My favorite part was the balanced pyro techniques and projections of similar effects - simply brilliant!)
