    Hi,

I'm looking for a bare correction amp PCB, does anyone have one left laying around to sell?
    I live in the Netherlands.

I have a partially stuffed one I can mail you from the States.
Would save you a great deal of money on potentiometers.

Is 10$ + postage OK? International postage should be ~ 7$ to the Netherlands.

Just out of curiosity, what sound card are you planning on using with that?

Im planning on using a soundblaser live 24bit sb040.
It works perfectly on windows 7 and linux with 5.1 @ 96khz

    OK.

Have you figured out where to tap it for direct coupled lines out of the DAC channels?

If so, have you measured the DC offset voltage that is there?

Since this is an internal PCI sound card, I would strongly recommend using the +12 and -12VDC found in the PCI slot instead of using a +5VDC to +9 and -9VDC DC/DC converter! (to provide the differential voltage supply for the op-amps on the correction amp board)

Did you think about laying this out on a copper clad proto board? I've made lots of them that way!

Also, are you absolutely sure it does 96KHz? I've seen cards advertised to be able to do 96 and even 192KHz, but it turns out those cards actually re-clock everything (up or down) to 48KHz, so they can deal with multiple audio streams of different sample rates (as high as 192KHz) and mix them together. That's not really a 96KHz DAC. You can prove it for yourself by making a wave of alternating maximum negative and positive samples at 96KHz. Look at the output on a scope or just try to measure some voltage with a decent AC volt meter. If the DAC is really 48KHz, you won't get anything.

24 bits won't get you any advantage at all with laser signals. Actually, 16 bits is way over-kill. Colors are no more than 8 bits in the digital domain and the visible resolution of modulated solid state lasers is less than that. Once you get past about 12 bits for the scanner signals, you can't see any improvements with more bits.

96KHz over 48KHz won't be much of an advantage either. It does give you a finer time quantum for doing math that results in time oriented factors. It also makes it possible to change colors faster in raster scanned effects. But that is limited by how fast the lasers themselves can be modulated.
