Smile Laser Safety Officer Training after SELEM 2013

    LSO class update:

We now have two people who have expressed an interest in taking the class. We need 4 more to make it happen. If you want to take the LSO class, let me know soon!

I E-mailed Patrick Murphy (ILDA Executive Director), and he said he would offer the same "Early Registration Discount" for the LSO class that we had last year. This means you can save $50 if you sign up at least a month before the class starts. But in order to set up the ILDA shopping website for class registration, we need to know for sure that we'll have enough people for the class. So the sooner we get 4 more people to commit, the sooner we'll be able to register.

For those of you still on the fence, trust me when I say that this class is WORTH IT. I took it back in 2011, and it was very informative. You'll walk out knowing exactly how to determine whether a given beam is eye-safe or not. (Seriously, the math isn't that hard once you see how to do it, plus Greg will show you several on-line calculators that make it even easier for you!) You'll also have a good understanding of not only the CDRH rules, but also ANSI and NFPA regs as well. It's a great class for both professional laserists and dedicated hobbyists alike.

Something else to think about with regards to the LSO class "might" be that, if you become an ILDA member, it's a reduced price, then if you sign up for the class early, it may be another reduction PLUS, if I recall, ILDA dues are prorated so, the later in the calendar year you join ILDA, the less the dues are. I could be wrong since it's been a few years since I joined ILDA and did the class. At the time, they weren't offering the early registration discount but, I think I paid a reduced fee for dues for the year and got the discounted course. Or, something like that.... Regardless... do it!

    Of note...

For those that will fly into SELEM in 2013, Southwest airlines begins service to Charlotte, NC mid-April.

-- frantically jambs hand down into the couch
-- checks all of the pockets of his jackets hanging up
-- wonders how much he can get for the aluminum in that old projector
-- begins scouring the neighborhood for empty cans and bottles
-- would have a garage sale (if he had a garage)
-- would have a yard sale (if he had a yard)
-- wonders if it is too early in the year to rent self out as Santa Claus?
-- wonders if he really needs all of these rocks
-- wonders how much one really gets for a pint of blood
