Default Two argon heads and a PSU

    Hi,

Is anyone interested in small (<100mW) argon laser heads? I have two, not sure what it is (I have them at work, need to write down) and some Melles-Griot power supply. I can ship within the US till the end of April.

    Here.

The Omnichrome has 4k hours on the counter. The Melles form what I remember when I ran it was significantly lower, maybe <1k (LCD counter so I need to hook it up to check). I also have another head like this Omnichrome one, but it has a power adjustment pot built-in, and a tunable resonator (you can pick what spectral line to lase at). However, I am not sure if I want to get rid of it because it's cool

    Hey, nice work. 60X-type heads.

Do you know if these are mulltiline or single?

I will need to check. Shouldn't the model number say that? What do you mean by 60X-type heads?

There were/are several makers of the same design laser head (and PSU, for that matter) that were drop-in replacements for one another. I got my ALC (America Laser Corp) 60X Argon Ion laser and PSU from a Xerox Machine back in the late 1980s. I understand these Omnichrome and Melles Griot model 532 heads are built from more or less the same design.

The 60X Argon is (or was) a really common argon laser. They may be less plentiful, these days. The JDSU 2214 may be taking over in this decade.

IIRC, 60X heads (and those like it) are capable of several configurations. It is the mirrors that control what the output. I do not have any data that will tell me, from those model numbers, what they output. They are each capable of multiline, if they have the optics for it. But they may be single line. Fire them up and bounce them off of a CD, and if you see more than one color, you'll know they're multiline.

I hear you on that tunable one. They are cool. I've heard the 60Xs came in a tunable model, but have never seen one.

That's what I was going to do, although it might be easier for me to find some diffraction grating laying around With a grating, what I prefer to do is shine the laser at some white non-fluorescent surface and look at the spot through a grating.

I have that one at home. I will take some pics and post here.

They both seem to be single line.

To be honest as soon as I seen the sticker I knew they were both single line. 532nm though? Interesting. I'm not quite sure what they are worth but they seem like very nice units. Where are you located state wise? Any idea what you are looking to get for them?

They are 488nm, not 532. 532 seems to be the model number which is kinda confusing I am in CA, Santa Barbara county. I haven't been tracking the prices for this stuff lately so I don't have much of an idea. I was thinking maybe a couple hundred bucks for a set of a head + PSU?
