Laser-like photons signal major step towards quantum ‘Internet’
The realisation of quantum networks is one of the major challenges of modern physics. Now, new research shows how high-quality photons can be generated from ‘solid-state’ chips, bringing us closer to the quantum ‘Internet’.

Yes. Up to now the way entangled photon pairs were generated was to block the VAST majority of the photons generated by a bulk source such as a laser and use only one or two at a time. Even though a laser-light photon is coherent with its neighbors the generation process is chaotic and statistical. They are using a cleaver technique. Nice.
