VAT = value added tax. it's like a sales tax. 20% in UK, unsure what it is from Belgium. Could be less than 20%

    These sound really sweet.

I have a similar module from Edison and am very impressed by the beam quality, suddenly my green is too large ;-)
Very good driver, small form factor and works like a charm. I have now all lasers on 1 12V psu which also saves me some space.

excellent beam profile. the 21% tax makes it on the very expensive side again....and its just not enough power for me
You are unique! Just like everyone else...

I purchased one of these modules from Johan and credit where it’s due, the module seems well made, and unlike several other types of multidiode red modules I’ve had arrive in the past, all the beams appear to all be aligned and not need the obligatory tweaking back into position.

As for the low divergence, it certainly looks tight. Does it meet the claims of 0.65mr? Difficult to say from just looking at the small spot. But all will be revealed when I get a chance to put the beam profiler in front of it.

To be fair, I’ve learned that most manufacturer’s reported beam diameters and divergence can be quite varied. Something that’s not helped by the number of different ways of defining these parameters. – Furthermore I’m sure some just use a ruler against a wall, and others just pick figures that sound good.

The fact the beams look small at distance in this particular module however looks encouraging.

The module is part of an interesting projector build being used for training/research that I’ll post details of in another thread.

ISO 11146 indeed Daniel, (find me a laser show manufacturer that is aware of it though!, and its sister standards 11145 and 13694). – I’ve yet to find a show laser manufacturer able to give meaningful figures that you can have a high level of confidence in being real. I’m sure most just use a tape measure and ruler! And don’t get me started on M^2! (-None of these comments however are aimed at any one particular manufacturer. It is a general statement)

But for such a limited market, where these things are less critical than in other sectors, does it matter?, where other key drivers such as is keeping the cost reasonable are more important.

It’s only the odd nerd like me that takes the time to scratch beneath the surface of quoted specifications.
