Power for power, how much more visible is 460 likely to be than 445?
It's 15nm difference. Now the difference between 650 and 640 is massive on the visibility (helped along by the beam specs), but could we use less power for the same visibility?

That to me sounds like a WIN situation then, even if it costs more. Nicer colour, more visible, lower powers...

I'd prefer it if it was consumer and commercial presentation projectors. Cheaper for us to buy and many more units sold!

Point taken, I wasn't clear, by cinema projectors I meant Home Cinema Projectors. I was just trying to avoid using the "C" name.
I would think that or laser tv's would be the most likely result to see seeing bulk reductions in price due to units sold. That said, laser tv's don't seem to have taken off and as 4K is the next tv big thing, I'm not sure we're going to see laser tv soon if at all. OLED etc seems to have put paid to that with the rush being on for greater pixel counts rather than brightness or perfect colour rendition.
445nm is a pretty blue, but it is not the blue that I like in an RGB projector. I have seen a 457nm DPSS and was in love with the color compared to 445nm. The price was terrible and the obvious instability that DPSS presents kept me from buying one. 445nm looks okay when displayed with green but I must say, any wavelength of red with 445nm blue looks hideous IMO. I avoid making abstracts that use red and 445nm blue because I hate the combination of those two colors. I miss my 473nm even though the wavelength was a tad too long for a nice blue. I think a 460nm would be just about right!

I've seen 460nm OPS Lasers and it is a very pretty colour... I have heard it referred to as True Blue... Combined with 445 (To keep those lovely deep purples) I think it would make one hell of a projector...
any news on these diodes? how about the 1w greens?
I bought a 1.3W module advertised as 460nm on ebay a while ago, and I immediately put it in my lumia projector. There is in fact a visible difference between this module and a 1.1W 445nm pointer I have laying around. The 445 is darker, while the 460 is brighter to the eye and is a more interesting shade of blue. Cameras don't capture the difference between the two wavelengths, though.
