We use lasers for more than just projectors, for example: Check out some of planters's threads and prepare to be jealous. Likewise with some of Jem's beautiful holograms or Swami's lumia and abstract work (which is projector based, but it is art in motion).

The main thing is, we get a lot of single sales posts here and it seems to be increasing. As for pointers, we don't hate them and they are not forbidden but there is a huge safety concern when a minor can easily acquire 2 watts of coherent light for $100 or less and far worse that it is in a handheld. I think the other part of it is, there is only so much vinyl tape that can be cut, balloons can be popped, matches lit, and jewel cases burned through before the fun wears out. That is how a lot of us veiw them. Browse through some of the threads here and you will see all the stuff we do with lasers. This is a great community and a lot can be learned here.

    Welcome to PL.

Welcome from one who did the same as you.

I felt I was treated rudely but once I learned the 'WHY' of the whole deal I understood.

You will never read a headline or see a TV new cast about an aircraft getting lased by projector. Almost every bit of bad press was the result of some moron and his 'greenie' . Show operators find them very useful- they point up there and say- 'lets place the mirror ball right there' or 'here is the best spot for a bounce mirror' but when the show starts the handhelds are like a trumpet in the audience at a concert-- a really dumb idea.

About your failing to do a proper intro thread.

That is very common and most that are already familiar with forums in general, know that its the best way to make a good first impression.

My analogy is... failing to introduce one's self is kinda like going to a big party hosted by someone you don't know well or have never met. The right thing to do is find the host and both intro yourself and thank them.

Some will still head directly to the open bar and free food but those with good manners will not. So I always suggest an intro thread and also a complete filling out of your personal profile. Where you live and what you do with lasers or other things of interest are nice to know and .. who knows , there may be a fellow member living close to you-- and many of us do not have many friends living nearby that speak 'laser'.

That is one of the beautiful things about LEMs- its very unlikely that you will be asked ...'waz up wit you and dem damned laser things.??. what the hell are they good for' -- if they have to ask... the answer may not be understood.

And that is something that projector owners are rarely asked... it is much more likely getting to be asked of a person with a handheld.
