I managed to watch them all. I think it's my computer having poor memory. If I shunt the scrubber up I can view the next chunk. Also think the time of day might be having its affect.

    Great tutorials CMB! I'm hooked.

I'm always surprised people like them ;D

I do not have Pangolin stuff, so I shouldn't make any statements, but I dare say that LSX wins when you look at the price/quality ratio. Beyond might be better, but it's an order of magnitude more expensive... Even QS is twice as expensive as LSX Pro.

Another thanks for the vids. Also it appears youtube might be having some issues as I have had the odd problems the last 2 days but never in the past as were described above.

    Just shooting off some ideas.

In tutorial 4 CMB explains how to use the Expression to manipulate the Y position of a graphic. While watching I thought off one more way you could do it.

In the pic below at one point CMB was picking from the highlighted combo box.Click image for larger version.

Would it be possible to add an option (free hand) where you could draw the wave yourself using the mouse and have LSX use numbers to remember where you drew?
Of course I don't know how many times that representation is sliced up and so recording the positions over the 'swipe' could be an enormous number.

Also, can you use the expression to jump to a point in the main timeline, like if this then go to time 01:00:10.234 for example.

Can you use if statements in the expressions?

Using expressions and the microphone expression (as apposed to sin and cosin) would it be possible to determine a BPM (so when the microphone expression returns 0 (MAX)) you know you've hit a beat and set a variable (var(1)) true or something and use this somewhere else?

    Hi,

Those are some very good questions/suggestions. Please forward them to drlava!

Right now it isn't possible to draw "freehand", but personally, I don't miss this feature. Most of the time you want a smooth movement anyway, so using expressions will always have a better, more defined result. Also there are curves. Most events work by default with the animator window (like the one in your screenshot) but most events have a curve alternative, hidden under the More button when you insert a new event (such as CurvePreMoveX or so). I think I encountered them once during the tutorial series. These allow you to place points that you can move around with the mouse, which isn't exactly freehand but close enough. This also makes it impossible to use X, Y, Z and Idx.

Yes, you can use expressions to jump to a certain point on the timeline. This can be done using the If event (also under the More button). This event got changed during the most recent update so it's not covered in the tutorial series. You can write an expression and when it outputs 1, it either jumps to another position on the timeline or ignores a selectable number of lines (you can choose). (Actually this looks like it's a bit bugged, I'll test some more and report to drlava).

Yes, you can use if statements in expressions. The syntax is: if(a,b,c) where a is a condition, and b is the result when a is 1 and c when a is 0.

If you're handy with expressions, then sure, you could try to make some kind of a BPM variable. I've never tried it though, but I should. I believe dzodzo tried something out before. Maybe it's better to use spec2 for this so you can select the frequency. Also maybe have the variable increment with each beat and reset after four counts... there's an idea.

    Nice, thanks.
drlava has commented on this thread so he'll get a 'poke' that I reckon he'll take notice of.

The answer to all is 'yes' yes you can draw paths freehand both for frames and live for any input. Yes, you can create laser tails and things following your freehand paths live. Yes, you can do all the other things, too. Welcome to LSX

I created a mouse follow demo show to demonstrate drawing live with the mouse.

One more thing, the Curve editor gives you something very similar to what you're looking for. It's a way of 'keyframing' animation and using splines to adjust the interconnected paths to your desired curve. In the event selector, click 'more' and choose a Curve-type event.

he probably wants to draw freehand not frames but the expression curve, however i don't see a point in such functionality it is best to let the beauty of math display its curves

What if you are rubbish at Maths?

Sometimes I know exactly what I want. I'm often prohibited by my ability to do what I want. Free-handing would help me.
