Having one more color in the color gamut expands the color triangle area by about 20-25%, even if the power is low.
Most of us Ion guys love adding 568 yellow-green, 575 yellow, or 457 violet.

The violet really, really, expands the gamut. True yellow is a close second.
I imagine a 600ish color will also really, really, expand the Gamut.

I've seen 2 watt yellow-orange OPSLs used as the sole laser source in a outdoor beamshow. After seeing that, there is no reason to return to 532, ever.

Get LSX and avoid having mysterious color mathamagic....

Trust me Steve, the colour system in Beyond is very advanced, maybe even revolutionary. It's nothing like previous systems, there's no wizard for a start, its all manual adjustment. The maths just kicks in to calculate the subtle shades between the set colours. Again without giving anything too much away, if you're not happy with a certain colour as per automated calculations you can custom add that as a set point and manually adjust that colour to achieve a perfect colour. The maths then takes over between that and the primaries using them all as a reference. It's all very clever. If you're still not happy, there are more detailed adjustments available which I'm not going to go into here. The results are stunning.

My Kvant has been totally transformed and I had a hardware Colour Correction Board fitted and adjusted by Kvant. The difference after Beyond tuning is amazing. I'm seeing colours and shades I've never seen before.

i hate to piss on your fire but this seems like the same feature in fiesta and its been in there for years

Andy you're not pissing on my fire at all, and just to clear up anything from the past, there are no bad feelings amongst us from my end.

Also, its probably my vague description that was at fault, but its nothing like Fiesta, way way more advanced from what I've seen. Fiesta 2 allows you to set 6 primary colours and adjust those from a colour picker from what can see in the demo. The Pangolin approach allows much more than just this.

I don't feel able to post full details as I don't think Bill would want it stating publicly before release but as I'm pretty sure you have beta versions, all I can say is test it and explore it, and convince yourself.

I've heard that more input colors will give a richer color saturation. If so how does that look in practice and if it does look better then the balancing in the color settings should probably max the nearest laser and add the bracketing lasers to make up any brightness deficit. It also suggests that the biggest gains will be by finding colors that nearly split the available primary colors.
Interesting. I've not had the luxury of playing with more than 3 common lines, so can't really comment. Certainly, adding distinct lines would seem to bear that theory out logically.

@Al - You're not talking about anything that isn't in the curerent general release as far as I can tell. Please stop with the 'without giving too much away' stuff all the time. The advanced tools are released, we're using them, Bill talked about them in another thread, he even released a fix for the fact the SE/XE baords weren't supported.

You are using Bonetti's defense against me, ah?

I thought it fitting, considering the rocky terrain.

Norty, sorry if my caution irritates you but as I don't even know what the current general build number is I'm careful what I do or don't say out of respect for Pangolin. I don't believe the full extent of the tools has been mentioned anywhere.

If you're confident to say what the colour controls consist of in full then that's your decision and at least that way its not on my head if its wrong.

I had 4 lines on my old projector. In LD2000 I would use the palette wizard to get the colours roughly tuned, that way, I can tell the software which colour is on each line. I would then go back and manually train the colours suing the Dark, Medium & Light colour test patterns. You literally click the coloured circle and manually adjust the brightness of each module to make that colour.
I had red, green, blue and dark blue, so for the lighter blues, lots of 473 and for the darker blues, lots of 445. Thing is, you can loose hours or even days fiddling with this. I then use the gradient test pattern to set fading.
I don't know about BEYOND. Bill sent me the latest version about a month ago, I have this on a QM2000 Pro board and can't see any colour settings. Maybe this function is still FB3 only...

Agreed, there is little point mentioning these little factoids if you can't give us any more info.

As far as I know, Beyond on QM still uses the colour settings from LD2k.

Projector Settings > Colour Settings > Advanced

It's in advanced. If you can't see "Advanced" you don't have it.

Hi Mark, hopefully I'm not stating the obvious here given your experience, but you need the DAC connected to see the colour options as they don't appear on software execution only. If you have the board connected and still don't see it then AFAIK you don't have it available.
