Now that my kids are grown up and moved out, I've been working in my garage on this:
It's all analog. Well, mostly. I've started using some digital controls for signal selection and switching in the internal busses, but all the imagery is from analog sources.
I just finished the translation joystick on the left, I'm adding one for z-axis rotation on the left.
The light colored section on the top is lissajous and cycloid generators,
it was from my original projector circa 1986. It's going to be redone with
some upgrades/lessons learned.
The 1U black panel is 3 channel beam chopper controls.
The 2U black panel is all color modulation controls.
There are three independent VCOs, a 4th VCO as an AM and/or FM modulation source, a 3 phase variable oscillator and 3 external inputs. I can assign any laser to any source or its inversion. I still haven't worked through all the combinations.
The front panel is power and laser (safety crap) controls.
I still have some other goodies to add. (I've got three pairs of scanners, only one pair up and running at the moment.)
I've been working on a 12 position lumia/effect turret which is starting to finally work in a predictable manner.
I did a quick video, nothing special, just a spiral with chopper and color mod effects. (Ignore the music, that just happened to be on in the shop.)
It's been a while getting this thing going, but as more and more of it works I get more motivated to do more with it.

Thanksrobvdv, those pics are amazing, any chance we can see what this water lens looks like?It's a CNCed aluminium ring epoxied to a UV filter attached to some speakers.
Depends on the frequency and amplitude. If you get it in the sweet spot it's stationary. Push the amplitude or frequency out and it falls apart (in a pretty way). We plotted the frequency/amplitude versus stability response and it's mostly linear. When everything is nicely balanced you get perfect stable symmetrical patterns out.Should I assume these images are moving rather fast - like ripples in a pond?
