Default Nice 'Fat Mystery Beam' from show, Pictures, Can you identify it?

    Hi All,

Well this weekend some me and some buddies treated ourselves and went to see a local Pink Floyd tribute band.
There was this one device mounted on some vertical trusswork that projected the most magnificent blue beam!
I'm not even sure if it is a laser or very bright well collaminated non-coherent light? It was static, meaning it did not move but when it turned on it really caught your attention.

Attached are two pictures: One is the beam termination a couple hundered feet from the stage. The other picture identifies the device, it looked smaller than a stage floodlight. As a bonus there are some beams projected into the audience, I hope a safety zone was set up and the power was attenuated during audience scanning .

The operator sat only a couple rows behind us so I was able to identify a Pango DAC and it looked like they were running Beyond. There were 3 RGB projectors; the center projector did the laser scanning.

By any chance is the laserist a member here ?

If you know what may have projected that blue fat beam please post...

I would imagine it would be very easy to find out who the laser Co are. Very few in the US have an audience scanning variance, even fewer that can take it out on the road

You are using Bonetti's defense against me, ah?

I thought it fitting, considering the rocky terrain.

I really doubt that the band has a audience scanning cert. That most likely is an illegal scanning show.

Well i didn't want to 'rat out' anyone in case the audience scanning was in fact legit but I also can't allow any wrong parties to be "accused".
So the venue was The Arcada Theatre in St. Charles Illinois, the Pink Floyd tribute band was "Echoes of Pompeii", I *think* the lighting company was Onesti entertainment but not sure....
The beams from the center projector which did some audience scanning *looked* bright but maybe a safe zone was setup and they were attenuated, who knows....
I can tell you I sure didn't look at the scanner when the beams were pointed at us....

Still would like to know about that 'mystery' fat beam, it was nice !
    Whats a Sharpy?

Lots of immitators now, and even some similar functioning heads from Clay Paky.

'Sharpy' seems to be a ubiquitous term for any narrow beam light now, much like 'hoover' is to vacuum cleaners.

That term-spot almost looks too-'succinct' for a Sharpy, even... almost 'photoshop-clean'.. My guess would be a 'raw' 445-diode blok, in some hacked-housing, with a hard 'aperture', to trim / wrangle the output into more of a 'beam' vs firehose...

..As-for the audience-scanning, yeah - only 3 US Sho-Co's, currently, that I am aware of, that have (official/approved) aud-scan Variances or gear.. so, dunno..
