Computer keeps restarting

I would think any magnetism is bad for your drive (permanent corruption), but it's probably, and I stress probably, not crashing your computer before it can even finish a POST. I can't imagine these speakers are pumping out that much interference.

Could it be that the laser cable has a short in it or maybe your DAC is shorting? How about simply swapping cables to the dac? Have you tried plugging the laser into another computer? Do you have/can you borrow another to bring to the bar? How can you be sure it isn't vibration, especially at that distance? Does it boot in the same environment without the laser attached? What happens if you plug the laser in after booting up?

What about the power source at the bar? Are the outlets you're on on the same circuit, and if so, what other gear is on them? Maybe you're drawing too much power or the power is very dirty. I'm kinda reaching with this one, but I've seen stranger things.

True, didnt think about the drive.

The PC has a QM2000 in it. I did try taking it out. I tried booting with everything unplugged except the power.
It was using the same supply as the DJs laptop, CD players, mixer and amplifier.
At this moment it has nothing to do with the laser and I certainly hope it has nothing to do with the QM2000 - like I said it runs fine all day and night in my office.

It is an all in one touch screen and it is mounted on a nice stand that doesnt seem to transfer vibration - it kind of sways.

Dirty power is an issue here on Utila. That was my original thought. Would this not effect the other musical items or cause the CD players to reset? The PC uses 220V so I use a step up transformer that I was hoping would keep things a bit cleaner. I do have a UPS at home that I will try out next time too. I dont think drawing too much power is the problem.

It is really getting quiet annoying.

Try a different circuit if you can. If you're running on the same circuit as all of that gear, especially an amp, you may be drawing too much power. It may not necessarily affect the other equipment, or it may be affecting it and it's not noticable. Or no one's complaining.

Also, get as far as you can from the speakers. Just because you don't feel vibration outside doesn't mean there isn't sympathetic vibration going on inside.

I'll try again on Friday and see what happens. I dont think I will bother taking the laser, I just want to get the computer to run properly

Yeah good idea, systematically isolating the problem by starting w/ the pc, then adding cables, then the projector etc. Not to say you might not be chasing a ghost or 2 though .. hopefully not ..

If the heat sink becomes slightly loose on the processor or shifts slightly admitting air between the sink and processor, the pc will reboot as it overheats then the processors safety circuit cuts in.

I've seen this many times on desktops.

Easiest way to eliminate it is remove the heatsink, clean it up, put on new compound then reseat it.

I've only ever done it with desktops so haven't a clue how its done with laptops.

Can't guarantee its the cause but worth looking at.
