    Default old 652nm-diodemodules from PDT-lasers

    Hi,

... I've sourced some old PDT-lasers and out of curiosity opened the diode-modules to see what's inside.

Some of them were really astonishing in assembly and expense! -- attached images of the two most interesting types ...

One was a 5W@652nm-diode with a farfield showing, that this in reality is a fibercoupled multidiode-array with 25 or 75 emitters in a really small housing:

And another device with a testing list for 6Watts and a display-range from 0.1W to 5W had a 20Watt@652nm-module inside with 61! single fibercoupled diodes -- one separate as aiming laser, 60 connected in serie with 120Volts driving voltage! ... and on a gigantic cooler - 14 PTC's connected in series too!!

Thanks for sharing; looks great - this is what PL's all about in my opinion... people tinkering

... two other devices have modules with 4 diodes, not combined by fibers, but by lens-segments and prisms.

    First an 18Watts@808nm module:

And a 5Watt@652nm-module with a much smaller optical setup, but unfortunately totally closed/glued -- so no further disassembling possible without wrecking it:

... it's a good part of fun and much more of learning, when dismantling such old devices ... but even more fun, when they start to beam again

Some years ago I've started with a wiki about sourcing and using laserdiodes - http://reprap.org/wiki/Laser_Cutter_Notes ... maybe I should update it ...

    Very interesting thread.

What are the beam specification for these module once the fiber is collimated ?

Could they be re-use for any kind of light show application ?

... the fiber bundle has around 0.8mm diameter and for my applications with refocussing on a spot I'm receiving 0.7mm best with pretty big lenses.

This can be usefull for a beam too, but expect smallest beam-diameters of 5-10mm ...
